Some interesting results for Welsh Masters athletes at the Inter-Area T&F championships at Corby....


Brett Davis reports on the success of WMAL athletes.

 

Three athletes from Bexley AC represented Welsh Masters Athletics at the Inter-Area track and field championships at Corby last weekend in the throwing events.


This included M50 Graham Holder, shot, discus, and hammer, M60 Andy Rushbrook, shot and high jump, and M70 Peter Hawley shot.

The men came 6th out of 9 teams with wins from Graham Holder for the hammer, Glyn Price for the pole vault and the M60, 4 x 100m relay team (Rod Davies, Brett Davis, Ian Broadhurst, and Paul Williams).


The women came an amazing 2nd out of 9 teams with wins from Kath Morgan W35 high jump, Mel Garland W60 high jump, 100m and long jump, Michelle Thomas W50 100m and 200m, Ewelina Ciesielska W35 3000m and the W50, 4 x 100m relay, Louise Kirby, Amanda Broadhurst, Lisa Franklin, Michelle Thomas. So overall Welsh Masters athletes came 5th/9.


New 800m PB for record holder Steve Gardner.


Steve Gardner was another successful athlete at Corby last weekend, and he finished in 4th place in the 800m with a new PB of 2.20.95. Steve later said: “The race was won by Robert McHarg in a fantastic time of 2.09.71. Robert recently won a bronze medal in MV60 age group at the World Masters Championships in Sweden.”

Conwy Parkrun plans to re-start next week despite row over new course, plus the start/finish areas... In 2019, Conwy Parkrun received tens of thousands of public votes and was elected as runner up in the global World Cup competition of parkruns, due to their friendliness, and for its picturesque 5k riverside course. Report by Don Hale. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com It was a very hot and humid despite a very strong and blustery wind at the Nova parkrun at Prestatyn last Saturday, with a generous attendance of some 255 mixed ability athletes and walkers, who all braved the refreshing sea breeze and sandy atmosphere. Two male visitors and course debutants grabbed their places in the top three as fast finishers with  Aaron Dodwell becoming the first male runner home on his debut in 18.44, with  Dafydd Montgomery  2nd in 19.17, and debutant  Harry Brewster  3rd on his debut in 19.30. Report by Don Hale.  https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com   Super veteran Dave Gardner won two gold medals at the WMAL Track & Field Championships at Yate on 8th June, with his veteran track star son Steve, also striking gold following a great performance in the 800m race. The talented North Wales Road Runner won the javelin event and his V85 age cat with what is expected to be another Welsh record and claimed another prestigious gold medal in the shot competition. His son Steve was also on top form, and he won a gold medal in the 800m race. Report and photos courtesy of the Wales team manager Bernie Jones. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com   For the first time in a couple of years, the Master international events came back to Wales, and we were rewarded with a record number of top three finishers and a new Welsh Record by the ageless Swansea Harrier, Alan Davies, who broke his own M70 record with a great run of 81-51.    Phil Matthews, Parc Bryn Bach (M45), was first home in 5th place overall comfortably winning his age category.
