This is a genuine and an emotional story written by a friend that I have known for several decades. I first met Dr Sam Allen, when I was editor of the Matlock Mercury in Derbyshire in the 1980s, and we were both then members of Matlock Athletic Club, along with the local MP Matthew Parris.
It seems a bizarre coincidence now after all these years, that Sam asked my publishing firm Coast and Country in North Wales to help produce and promote his first book, concerning his extraordinary role - along with his medical team - in helping to save so many lives at Ground Zero following the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attack on the Twin Towers in New York.

I was honoured when Sam came to me again this year to help produce this latest fascinating and updated version for a special full colour book to commemorate the 25th anniversary of this horrific terrorist attack on New York, which now also includes a foreword by Matthew, who eventually left politics to become a writer for the Times.
The book includes genuine testimony from someone who quite unexpectantly voluntarily attended Ground Zero as a doctor, shortly after one of the worst atrocities in American history.
His incredible recollections together with many of Sam’s own dramatic, and family photographs from that day, confirm what life was really like for him, and all the emergency services during those harrowing hours, when so many thousands of innocent people suddenly lost their lives in a series of devastating incidents.
This is a book that should be read and cherished for posterity.

Dr Sam Allen, a UK doctor, and members of an expeditionary team, watched the incredible events taking place whilst waiting clearance for take-off from John F. Kennedy Airport. Following an appeal from the U.S. State Department, Sam became a first responder at Ground Zero.
Harry Koundakjian, veteran Middle East war photographer and Chief Photo-editor at Associated Press, captured the iconic images on that day.
