Two Welsh Masters M70 Best Performances by David Gibson are verified by WMAL...

Welsh Master and Tri Hard Harrier David Gibson from Swansea has now had two Welsh Masters' records verified by WMAL official Chris Pruski.

 

His M70 Welsh Masters Marathon Best Performance was achieved at the 2024 London Marathon in April with a category winning time of 3.13.31, on 21st April 2024. His M70 Welsh Masters Half Marathon Best Performance of 1.27.11, was accomplished at the 2024 Swansea Half Marathon on June 9th.

 

These confirmations come just a few weeks after David came 4th in the World Masters Athletics Championship M70 Half Marathon in Gothenburg and was the recipient of a team silver medal for Great Britain.

 

David started running at the age of 62 doing a 'Couch to 5k' challenge and finds it’s hard to believe how far he has come in the last ten years. He commented "I am really proud of these achievements, which seem a bit unreal for me, but I hope that they can also provide some inspiration to the younger members of my club - Tri Hard Harriers."

Report by David Gibson. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   The Swansea Bay 10k is a well-loved event that has been going nearly as long as the London Marathon, and the 2024 set of races held on Sunday 15th September was the 43rd edition. Unlike last year which was wet, the weather this year was good for running with only a bit of a south westerly breeze working against the runners on the outward leg. Whilst the 10k race is the headline element of the day, there are also other races encouraging all members of families to take part. These are a 1k for youngsters seven and under; a 1k for 8 to 11-year-olds, a 3k for older children, and a 10k wheelchair race, which was won by Owain Terrell of Disability Sports Wales in a time of 31:05. Some interesting results for Welsh Masters athletes at the Inter-Area T&F championships at Corby.... Brett Davis reports on the success of WMAL athletes.   Three athletes from Bexley AC represented Welsh Masters Athletics at the Inter-Area track and field championships at Corby last weekend in the throwing events. This included M50  Graham Holder,  shot, discus, and hammer, M60  Andy Rushbrook , shot and high jump, and M70  Peter Hawley  shot. The men came 6th out of 9 teams with wins from  Graham Holder  for the hammer,  Glyn Price  for the pole vault and the M60, 4 x 100m relay team ( Rod Davies ,  Brett Davis ,  Ian Broadhurst , and  Paul Williams ). LAST CALL: The first North Wales Cross Country League fixture starts at Eirias Park, Colwyn Bay, tomorrow (Saturday 5th October), with junior races starting at 10-30am (Under 15 Boys) and the Senior races starting as usual at 1pm.
