A trio of NWRRC members took part in the Abersoch half-marathon last Saturday with Stuart Culverhouse coming home first for the club in 28th place overall, out of nearly 300 entrants. And he also celebrated a new course PB and finished two-minutes quicker than last time in 1.33.35 and he was 3rd in his M50 age cat. 

Super-veteran Sandy Johnston confirmed his pedigree with a superb result of 1.42.26 to win his M75 cat with a new PB in 62nd place, whilst Gwen Charlton ran well in 2.20.44, and she was 260th overall, and the 86th female finisher.

After the race Sandy said: “Just ran a huge over-75 PB at the Abersoch half after 10 days of hot and hilly training in Italy, with my daughter Alice, and It might even be a North Wales record, too?

Road Runners competed in the Trail and Canicross races.


Two NWRRC members took part in the Llyn Alwen Trail and Canicross event on Sunday with Charlotte Rose Wilton-Jones, finishing 10th overall, and the 5th female finisher, in the Canicross Race, along with her dog Mollie in a good chip time of 1.00.29. And club newcomer Paul Aubert competed in the 11.5k trail race, and he was 18th out of 76 entrants in 54.24.



*Will Williams (*above left), ran well in the midweek 5k race, and (*above right), Master veteran Mike Hayton won his VM70 age cat at the Ruthin parkrun.

*Talwr: Will Williams competed in the Talwr to Llanbedrgoch 5k race in midweek and he finished 11th overall in 19.18, and he was 2nd in his respective age cat. After the race he said: “A decent effort tonight still lots of work to do to get fit again but good workout on a hilly course. Representing Cybi my second claim club this evening as the race was supported by Cybi and they’re great bunch to run with.”

*Ruthin: Mike Hayton won his M70 age cat with a good run at the Ruthin Memorial Playing Fields parkrun after finishing 43rd overall in 28.24.

    John Gardener (Pembrokeshire) holds the Welsh M75 half marathon record with 1:36:22 set in Swansea on 26 June 2016. The age group records are on Welsh Athletics website.

Steve Gardner smashes 800m Welsh record at World Masters Athletics champs in Sweden.

Report by Don Hale. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com North Wales Road Runner, Welsh Master, and Team GB track athlete Steve Gardner smashed his own previous best record time in the 800m event during the World Masters Athletics Championships in Sweden last week with an improved time to set a new Welsh Masters Athletics record. Competing on the track in Bjorlanda, Sweden, on 15th August, for Team GB, the M60 veteran ran home in 2 minutes 22.26 seconds. He was also the 3rd British athlete and the 1st Welshman, finishing 23rd overall based on the times over seven heats. There were 72 starters.  And in the 1500m held over the past few days, he recorded another excellent PB finishing in 5.07.05, in 24th place overall, as the 4th British athlete, and once again he was understood to be the 1st Welshman. Some interesting results for Welsh Masters athletes at the Inter-Area T&F championships at Corby.... Brett Davis reports on the success of WMAL athletes.   Three athletes from Bexley AC represented Welsh Masters Athletics at the Inter-Area track and field championships at Corby last weekend in the throwing events. This included M50  Graham Holder,  shot, discus, and hammer, M60  Andy Rushbrook , shot and high jump, and M70  Peter Hawley  shot. The men came 6th out of 9 teams with wins from  Graham Holder  for the hammer,  Glyn Price  for the pole vault and the M60, 4 x 100m relay team ( Rod Davies ,  Brett Davis ,  Ian Broadhurst , and  Paul Williams ). Report courtesy of David Gibson (Tri-Hard Harriers)   https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   Over one-hundred athletes competed in the West Wales 10k Road Running Championships on Sunday 18th August, which was incorporated this year for the first time into the St Clears 10K road race, and kindly organised by TROTS.   The course included a picturesque route through the town of St Clears and then out and around the local scenic countryside, before finishing outside the Leisure Centre.   Congratulations to everyone who took part and to our age group medallists. It was great to see so many of our regional clubs represented in Carmarthenshire. Four age category wins for the Road Runners at Conwy parkrun - plus other results.

Report by Don Hale. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   North Wales Road Runners entered thirteen members at the Conwy parkrun last Saturday and claimed four age category wins and former NWRRC athlete Josh Keogh was the first finisher overall with an excellent finishing time of 18 minutes and 37 seconds. Starting from the RSPB Nature Reserve, this popular 5k event attracted numerous runners from various parts of the UK, in addition to welcoming back some of their own club runners following some long periods of absence. And also, it should be noted, that due to some other competing fixtures on another busy weekend, many runners took it steady in the rather heavy and humid weather.
