Gold medal winners at the Welsh Masters 3000m championships at Cardiff - plus January indoor updates.

Report by Don Hale. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk Brett Davis, a director of WMAL has just confirmed the gold medal winners and results from the various 3000m championship races for both male and female athletes from last Sunday at the Cardiff Indoor Stadium. North Wales Road Runner  Steve Gardner  made the long journey south once again to record an excellent time in his veteran M60 age category in a time of 10 minutes and 37 seconds to claim a new PB. After his event Steve, who deservedly struck gold, later said : “ I competed at the 3000m champs in Cardiff yesterday, and I was very pleased with my performance in a time of 10.37, which was a new pb for me, 25 seconds faster than my previous outdoor time set earlier in the year.  ...

Some interesting results for Welsh Masters athletes at the Inter-Area T&F championships at Corby.... Brett Davis reports on the success of WMAL athletes.   Three athletes from Bexley AC represented Welsh Masters Athletics at the Inter-Area track and field championships at Corby last weekend in the throwing events. This included M50  Graham Holder,  shot, discus, and hammer, M60  Andy Rushbrook , shot and high jump, and M70  Peter Hawley  shot. The men came 6th out of 9 teams with wins from  Graham Holder  for the hammer,  Glyn Price  for the pole vault and the M60, 4 x 100m relay team ( Rod Davies ,  Brett Davis ,  Ian Broadhurst , and  Paul Williams ). The women came an amazing 2nd out of 9 teams with wins from  Kath Morgan  W35 high jump,  Mel Garland  W60 high jump, 100m and...

  Welsh Masters Athletics set to hold Summer T&F championships at Yate again this year. Brett Davis, a director of Welsh Masters Athletics, has confirmed an  important  update this week regarding the WMAL championships. He said: "WMAL will be holding our Summer Athletics T&F championships in Yate again! We are combining with Avon Athletics Association and Yate AC, who are hosting the Masters Open Track and Field Event   on Sunday 21st July.   This is a week before the BMAF Championships in Derby on 27/28th July." *Further details to follow.

WMAL team manager Eleri Jones is urgently looking for someone to join her squad for the forthcoming Inter-area T&F championships. This week she asked:   “Is it possible to put a shout out on the Welsh Masters page for a W50 800m runner please? We’ve had a couple of people who aren’t available and running out of options? "We have a vacancy in the team for a W50 800m runner, whilst the men’s team is heading towards announcement of a provisional team. Thanks." Report by Don Hale.  https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   There were some excellent results and some fast times recorded at the Welsh Masters Athletics 2024 Indoor track events, held at the Indoor Stadium at Cardiff Metropolitan University last Sunday, which formed part of the Non Thomas meeting. These included the 60m, 200m and 300m events, and  Brett Davies , a director from Welsh Masters Athletics Ltd, has confirmed the roll of honour, and champions list of WMAL champion members. New proposals for Welsh Masters Athletics - Winter Indoor event in Swansea. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk Brett Davis, a director of WMAL, has confirmed proposals for a new winter indoor event for next month. This week he explained: " We’re considering holding an indoor field events championship on Sunday 11th February in Swansea.  "However WA have been struggling to get sufficient field officials for their events. So this is a call to see how many members would be interested in competing and would also be able to officiate.  "Obviously interested in any field officials who wouldn’t be competing too, although aware that they’re less likely to be looking here. Will be using your responses to help judge if this event had a chance of happening. Thanks in advance." Brett Davis,  Director,  Welsh Masters Athletics Limited.

This is a list of the WMAL medallists from the Welsh Masters Road Race championships which took place within the Old Father Time 5-mile road race in Cardiff last Sunday. It took place on an extremely windy day with the heavy rain holding off until most competitors had finished. * The full results are on Les Croupiers website.   Presentations of medals took place afterwards but only using the subset of the full results that was available at the time. So only to those medallists who were still there and where their result had been processed.  I will be looking to get the remaining medals out either by post or by hand.
