Despite this unfortunate delay, all the competitors still managed to perform well, and enjoyed the muggy conditions, with a pleasant breeze around the picturesque lake and relatively flat course.  Jonathan Kettle  enjoyed a steady performance, and he was the first NWRRC man home in 1 hour 18 minutes and 18 seconds to finish in 27th place overall. Stuart Culverhouse  was 153rd in 1.32,12, with  Ben Hudson  176th in 1.34.18, and Ben’s wife  Sarah Ferguson Hudson  finished as the 37th female, 214th overal

Being a runner is not just about turning out for a race, taking part, and then going home; there are many, many, times when volunteers or marshals are desperately needed to support a particular race and/or a local parkrun or cross-country event. It was good to see two North Wales Road Runners helping out at the Chester 100-mile Ultra event last week and doing whatever task was required. They were amongst many others who gave up their valuable time to support this exciting Ultra Challenge. Ben and Sarah Ferguson are regular competitors at a variety of events, including endurance and ultra races, and they welcomed the opportunity to pay back some of the generous assistance offered to them in the past. Report by Don Hale.    North Wales Road Runner Will Williams completed a unique double last weekend by competing in two very different and extremely fast 5k races and claimed two sub-18-minute finishes. Last Friday night  Will   Williams  competed in the Mid Cheshire 5k dash and was delighted with another course PB in an amazing time of just 17 minutes and 33 seconds.  Despite this superb result, however, Will still finished in 327th place out of nearly 700 elite athletes with the first thirty-seven runners incredibly dipping under fifteen minutes in an ultra-fast race. Quite remarkably,  Jack Gray  (Cambridge & Coleridge) won the race in 13.58 ,  and  Nic Brook  (Eryri Harriers) also competed, and finished 258th in 16.56. Following his Cheshire race,  Will remarked: “A slight PB improvement, so small steps in a very f

*Ben and Sarah (*pictured above) at the start of their  amazing  78-mile Ultra endurance run for the British Heart Foundation Appeal. Report by Don Hale.   Popular ultra-endurance running couple Ben and Sarah Hudson completed a tremendous 78-miles challenge last weekend as part of their special fundraising effort to help raise both awareness and funds for the British Heart Foundation’s Focus Appeal. Their incredible effort was prompted by the loss of Sarah’s father last year and inspired the two North Wales Road Runners and guest house owners from Betws-y-Coed to do something rather amazing to boost the profile of the BHF’s Focus Appeal to fund cardio-vascular research. They eventually decided to run two massive ultra-events during 2022, and Sarah confirmed: “ We opted to run both the Chester 50 and 100-mile Ultras, which cover routes through the county of Cheshire, including the area where Dad – James Ian Ferguson - once lived, and where we still have extended family. “Dad used to do

*Ben and Sarah Hudson celebrated their wedding anniversary at the Reading half-marathon. Report by Don Hale.   Ben and Sarah-Ferguson Hudson celebrated their wedding anniversary in style last Sunday by running in the Reading half-marathon, with Ben claiming a new personal best time over this distance, whilst Sarah was just one second adrift of her target. The popular NWRRC husband and wife duo tackled an undulating course, which left Sarah slightly frustrated at just missing out on her own PB, and of completing a unique family double. Despite the challenging route and the conditions, both athletes competed well amongst more than 6,000 runners, with Ben finishing 620th overall in a new PB of 1 hour 33 minutes and 44 seconds. Sarah too was so close to glory and just missed out by a second on claiming her own PB, finishing in 1,329th place in 1.46.00. After the race, Sarah admitted: ‘Reading half for me and Ben this morning and gutted to miss sub 1:45 yet again, but there were a couple of
