Medals galore for NW Road Runners at Colwyn Bay Metric races.

Most photos by Lesley Goodson. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmasterathletics.co.uk   Nearly three-hundred mixed ability runners took part in the challenging Colwyn Bay Metric Marathon, and Metric Half-Marathon races, run together last Sunday in cool and very breezy conditions. Well-organised by RunWales, and well supported by numerous volunteers and marshalls, including a generous number from Porth Eirias Runners, the entrants had to battle with very strong and blustery headwinds on the re-routed four-mile outward course towards Penrhyn Bay from the start on the running track at the Eirias Park Stadium. The Metric half-marathon  (13.1 kms/8.13 miles), attracted 87 run

North Wales Road Runners  entered five athletes in the half-marathon event, with a further six members competing in the 10k, and once again they celebrated with an excellent M65 age cat

Report by Don Hale.   There was a good turn-out of North Wales Road Runners and guests at the annual prize presentation and dinner held at Maesdu Golf Club last Saturday night. And following a good meal and some entertainment provided by Dani, there was a glittering display of silverware on offer for members old and new as the MC and club chairman  Kevin Slattery , enthusiastically read out all the eagerly awaited results, which included: -  Club handicap race winners  (female), Helen Hannam, and (male) winner Steve Roberts.  (Male),   Group   C  – 3rd Rob Fryer, runner-up Cai Roberts, and winner – Mark Mason.  Group B  – 3rd Kevin Higgins, runner-up Sion Thomas, and winner Ben Hudson.  Group A  – 3rd Jonathan Kettle, runner-up Iwan Evans, and winner Martin Gree

Most photos by Steve Jeffery.    It was another bright, sunny, but cold Saturday morning at Conwy parkrun last weekend as 239 entrants from all parts of the UK enjoyed the splendours of this attractive but challenging 5k course. This event included a very fast-paced dash by two young and promising athletes who dominated the parkrun from start to finish with  Tomos Land  the 1st runner home in just 17 minutes and 18 seconds, closely followed by rival  John Davies  (Eryri Harriers) in 2nd place, who was just twenty-seconds behind, despite a new PB of 17.38, with  Ian Slattery  3rd in 18.58. Ian is the son of the NWRRC chairman  Kevin Slattery , and he was on a brief home visit and celebrated his run with a deserved podium spot and 1st place in his MV35 age cat. The 1st Lady was  Tara Truman  (Stroud) in 20.38, with  Alice Johnston  (Les Croup

Group photo by Ian Turner.   There was a large turn-out of club members, officials, and guests at the North Wales Road Running Club’s presentation evening, held last Saturday night, at the North Wales Golf Club in Llandudno. This was the first time in a several years that the club has been able to celebrate such a glittering occasion due to pandemic restrictions, and this time many newcomers, and much improved club athletes, became the recipients of numerous impressive awards. The evening included a special dinner at the 19th Hole restaurant followed by the presentation and a disco. The awards were handed out by the hard-working NWRRC club chairman Kevin Slattery, with praise also given to Martin Green, who was the results and points co-ordinator, in addition to many club officials, and fellow members, who had all helped to make this e

Photos by John Hatton and Mick Hall.   NWRRC members beat the horrific weather last Saturday and claimed medals galore in the highly prestigious North Wales championships held within the Rhyl 10-mile race. Tackling rain, sleet, snow, and freezing temperatures, runners claimed five podium places including two age category wins, one second and two third placings, in addition to winning four gold and four silver medals in the North Wales championship age categories. Josh Keogh  was the first club man home finishing 3rd overall and 3rd in his SM21.34 age cat in 56 minutes 47 seconds, with  Jonathan Kettle  8th but won his MV50-55 cat in 58.28. *Jonathan Kettle braved the elements to finish 8th and won his age cat at the Rhyl 10-miler.
