Three North Wales Road Runners won their respective age categories last Saturday morning at the Conwy parkrun amongst a good turnout of nearly three-hundred visiting club and social runners.
Richard Scamans was the first NWRRC member home with another determined display, and he was back to his best in 20th place and finished 3rd in his VM55 cat in 21 minutes and 44 seconds, with Steve Roberts in close pursuit and finishing 24th in 21.57, and he won his VM55 cat.
Club entries were down this week with just eight starters at the RSPB Nature Reserve due to either runners recovering from last week’s races, or preparing for other fixtures, but the results included: - Harry Driscoll, who had a steady run finishing 29th in 22.33, and he was 2nd in his SM20 cat, whilst Hannah Griffith won her VW50 cat in 57th place in 25.19.
Master vets Rob Fryer and Don Hale competed well with Rob winning his VM70 cat after finishing 76th in 26.08, and Don continued his recovery plan in 114th place in 28.05, and he was 2nd in the same age cat as Rob.
Meanwhile, veteran John O’Shea ran well despite a slight injury in 132nd place in 29.18, and he was 4th in his VM65 cat, and Rachel Morris was probably glad to finish after suffering with heavy legs from her gallant efforts from last week at the Great North Run, and from her on-going marathon training, including a tough 8-mile Saturday schedule, but she bravely recorded a time of 40.50 in 259th place.
*Praise was given to the run director and to all the volunteers and marshals. This is a link to the provisional results from Conwy: https://www.parkrun.org.uk/conwy/results/latestresults/
*The first finisher at Conwy parkrun was Leo Loughran on his course debut in 17.30, with David Clarke 2nd with a new PB in 18.11, and Chris Benson, who was another debutant finishing 3rd overall in 18.23. The first female was junior athlete Catrin Evans JW11-14 (14th overall) in 21.06, whilst Catherine Davies ran a new PB in 2nd place (37th overall) in 22.58, with Mia Williams 3rd (and 44th overall) in 24.11. *There were 283 finishers in total.

Other race results:
*Abersoch: A trio of NWRRC members took part in the Abersoch half-marathon last Saturday with Stuart Culverhouse coming home first for the club in 28th place overall, out of nearly 300 entrants. And he also celebrated a new course PB and finished two-minutes quicker than last time in 1.33.35 and he was 3rd in his M50 age cat. Super-veteran Sandy Johnston confirmed his pedigree with a superb result of 1.42.26 to win his M75 cat in 62nd place, whilst Gwen Charlton ran well in 2.20.44, and she was 260th overall, and the 86th female finisher.
After the race Sandy said: “Just ran a huge Over-75 PB at the Abersoch half after 10 days of hot and hilly training in Italy, with my daughter Alice, and it might even be a North Wales record, too?”
*Llyn Alwen: Two NWRRC members took part in the Llyn Alwen Trail and Canicross event on Sunday with Charlotte Rose Wilton-Jones, (*pictured right with her dog Mollie), finished 10th overall, and she was the 5th female finisher, in the Canicross Race, along with her dog Mollie in a good chip time of 1.00.29. And club newcomer Paul Aubert competed in the 11.5k trail race, and he was 18th out of 76 entrants in 54.24.
*Talwr: Will Williams competed in the Talwr to Llanbedrgoch 5k race in midweek and he finished 11th overall in 19.18, and he was 2nd in his respective age cat. Afterwards the race he said: “A decent effort tonight still lots of work to do to get fit again but good workout on a hilly course. Representing Cybi my second claim club this evening as the race was supported by Cybi and they’re great bunch to run with.”
*Ruthin: Mike Hayton won his M70 age cat with a good run at the Ruthin Memorial Playing Fields parkrun after finishing 43rd overall in 28.24.
