Wet and windy at Caernarfon for the half marathon championships...plus GNR and other results...

Report by Don Hale. donhaleblog.blogspot.com/2025   There was a good entry of more than six hundred elite, club and social runners at the Caernarfon half marathon last Sunday, which was staged in unusually wet and windy weather but saw the top male and female athletes retain their titles. This event was also part of the  North Wales Regional Half-Marathon Championships , and it also attracted many top athletes from all around the UK, and it was well organised by RunWales. Tomos Roberts  (Meirionnydd RC) was the overall winner in 1 hour 11 minutes and 26 seconds, with  Chris Pownall (Cybi Striders) second in 1.15.42, and  Steffan Sayer  (Menai T&F), third in 1.15.45. *The first female finisher was  Emma Alofs  (Cybi Striders) in 1.27.49, and  Eleanor Ashcroft  (Denbigh H...

A special 36-mile charity fundraising challenge in memory of Simon Lee. Message courtesy of Paula Jones at Porth Eirias Runners. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com   The first of our charity fundraising runners takes on her challenge tomorrow (Saturday), so a huge shout out to  Nicola Goodall  who takes on a 36k run in memory of her brother, Simon Lee, who would have been 36 years old this month.  Her husband Gary is going to run 36 miles, with their children joining them for part of the run. They are raising money for three vital charities that support people bereaved by suicide - Cruse, SOBS and Suicide&co. These charities are included in our fundraising day on 29th March but if anyone would like to donate direct the links are at the bottom  Nicola joined Porth Eirias runners about 7 years ago and is one of our longest serving members!! She has trained extremely hard for this run joining other club members on their marathon training while juggling work, fami...

Report by Don Hale.  https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   In stark contrast to last week’s icy 5k course at Conwy parkrun, this time some 229 starters faced a cold blustery wind, but the event welcomed a large contingent from Porth Eirias Runners, and numerous ‘Couch to 5k’ participants. North Wales Road Runners  entered twelve members with  Josh Keogh  being the first man home overall on an unusually dry but challenging course with a fast time of 17 minutes and 33 seconds. The club also celebrated four first placed age cat victories, four second, and two third placings. Josh also won his SM30 age cat, and he was more than a minute ahead of the second placed finishers and debutants,  Cameron Morris  in 18.42, and  Ed Slaughter  third in 18.43.
