Another record smashed at Penrhyn Castle parkrun and four age cat wins at Bala...

It seems that records at Penrhyn Castle parkrun are more like London buses, with nothing for ages then suddenly two come along at once. Only last week Sara Ismail-Sutton smashed the female course record and last Saturday, despite the rain, there was another bumper turn-out of visiting athletes, who beat the previous attendance record with 370 finishers. And it was very nearly a hat-trick of records, with Colwyn Bay athlete and US student  Bryn Woodall  (*pictured right), enjoying a tremendous run at Penrhyn on their four-lap woodland route on his return to the U...

Colwyn Bay AC student Bryn Woodall wins national 1500m title in America with new PB... Report by Don Hale.  https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com   Colwyn Bay AC member and student Bryn Woodall set a superb personal best time to win a national 1500m track championship title at the NAIA track finals in America last weekend. The promising North Wales athlete, and a former regular at the  Conwy parkrun , who still holds the course record holder over their 5k route, is currently overseas on a student scholarship scheme, has been busy studying at Milligan University in the USA.   And last week he recorded a great new PB of just 3.41.93 over this distance to claim a prestigious title victory against quality opposition at the end of a busy season of athletics.

((*UPDATE): American student Bryn Woodall recorded the quickest time in the UK last week and set a new course record at Conwy parkrun.

Report by Don Hale. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   In stark contrast to the previous week, Conwy parkrunners enjoyed very warm conditions last Saturday morning with bright sunshine, light headwinds, and a limited number of puddles. Nearly 300 mixed ability club and social runners from all over the UK took advantage of the mild weather at the RSPB Nature Reserve to record some excellent new PBs, many fast times and some notable age category wins. North Wales Road Runners  had a good entry with some fourteen athletes in action this week and claimed three age cat victories, with four other members finishing in second places.  Alastair Canaway  made a rare parkrun appearance but ran well in 5th place overall, and he was 2nd in his VM35 cat in 18.59. Report by Don Hale. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   Talented youngster Bryn Woodall, who has just returned home to North Wales for the summer from his studies in America was the first athlete home at last Saturday’s Conwy parkrun, which attracted a host of club and social runners from all over the UK. Bryn, who represents Colwyn Bay AAC, easily won his SM20 age cat with a fast time of 17 minutes and 43 seconds, with fell runner  Josh Keogh  winning his SM30 age cat in 2nd place overall in 18.02, whilst  Aled Hughes  (GOG Triathlon) finished 3rd in 18.15, and he won his VM35 cat. Anna Drinkwater  (Eryri Harriers) claimed the 1st female spot with a superb run finishing in 11th place overall in 19.39, and she won her SW25 cat. Photos by Steve Jeffery. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   Two talented students competed for honours at Conwy parkrun last Saturday with Bryn Woodall (Colwyn Bay AC) eventually outsprinting his rival Harri Jackson (Manchester Metro University AC) to claim the first place with an incredible time of just 15 minutes and 54 seconds. Bryn , who is on leave from his studies in America, narrowly failed to match his record on this picturesque but challenging 5k course, but still finished over a minute clear to additionally win his SM20-24 age category.  *American student Bryn Woodall (*above) was the first man back home at the Conwy parkrun last weekend.
