Ring O’ Fire is a coastal ultra-marathon which takes runners on an extraordinary 135-mile journey around the Isle of Anglesey. The epic foot race is staged over three consecutive days and follows the rugged and spectacular Anglesey Coastal Path. Almost the entire coastline of Anglesey has been designated an “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty”. Set against the dramatic backdrop of Snowdonia Mountain range, runners will challenge themselves in some of the most awe-inspiring coastal scenery in the British Isles. Beauty aside, the extreme distance and variable terrain has sealed the race’s reputation as one of the most challenging ultra-marathons in the British Isles. Staged on the Treborth 400-metre athletic track, near Bangor, event organisers welcomed  anyone and everyone to take part, with entrants invited to run as many, or as few laps as possible for a donation, and as part of a unique challenge, which began at 9 am on Saturday morning and continued until the same time on Sunday. The enterprising members were determined to continue with their valuable charity support after a popular 5-mile race planned at Deganwy during June was postponed for the second year running due to continued Covid-19 restrictions. Club officials therefore have opted for a special relay event to be staged on Llandudno promenade on Sunday June 6th (10am) - for club members only - and including mixed teams of three athletes running a split of 1.66 miles for each leg, to match the 5-mile target. All proceeds from this

Photographs by Steve Jeffery Four mixed teams of athletes from North Wales Road Runners enjoyed a relay run in the sun last Sunday on Llandudno Promenade as they helped to raise funds for the RNLI as part of their Mayday Mile appeal. *Josh Keogh recorded the fastest mile on the day for the RNLI relay For many of the twenty-one runners, this was their first competitive “live” run for about fifteen months, and thankfully the cool, windy, and rainswept weather of recent days disappeared for a couple of hours to allow everyone to thoroughly enjoy the occasion. Despite this necessary time absence from major events due to Covid-19 restrictions, several club runners still recorded PBs (personal best times), and the event included members aged from 16-70 years of age. *(Above) partially sighted runner Daniel Owens with Carla Green and (below)

This special fundraising event is open from now till 16th May and you can run it, walk it, or skip it, but however you do it, help to keep summer safe...and members of the North Wales Road Running Club are planning to do their bit for this worthy cause by completing a series of one-mile dashes on Llandudno prom this Sunday during a special relay challenge.  Several star athletes, fresh from their success last weekend at the Aintree Races, will be displaying their talents, with the event starting close to the RNLI boathouse from 10am.      *Some of the North Wales Road runners team. A Mayday is an urgent call for help. Usually, RNLI lifesavers answer mayday calls and go to rescue others. But this May, with the busiest summer season on the way, it’s they who need YOUR help. The Mayday Mile is a way to answer their call. Cover the distance however you like. Alone or with a friend. Just once or every day for a week. In wellies or o
