Welsh Masters Sprint events confirmed for 26th January at Cardiff Indoor Centre...and see details for 12th Jan meeting.

URGENT UPDATE: It has now been agreed and confirmed by Welsh Masters Athletics officials that the forthcoming meeting in Cardiff at the National Indoor Athletics Centre on 12th January will include the 800m and 1500m championships.

*Also, please note: Brett Davis, a Director of Welsh Masters Athletics Limited, has confirmed some important updates to other varied indoor meetings:

* The 800m and 1500m events on the 12th January are available to enter now.

* Sprints will now be included with the meeting on the 26th January. Brett Davis, has additionally confirmed this week: 

Hi all, I’ve had the nod that the sprints meet on 26th January is due to go live this week (or later based on previous go live dates). Having seen the timetable online I would say that we should make 60m, 200m, and 300m, our championship events and promote as such.

* The 800, 1500, and probably 400, will be at the same venue in Cardiff on Sunday 12 January, and the sprints (60, 200, and possibly 400) on Sunday 26 January. Entries for the 60 will get two runs: only the first will count as our championship.

* We will also be considering if we have any options for field events.

* Another update for members is that the vests t-shirts and crop tops, top up order is here today, so will be able to process outstanding orders and take new orders. I will be in touch with people who have outstanding orders to arrange payment. 

*Please note that you will have to renew your membership for the January meetings. Membership renewals are now open.

Well organised by  John Hatton  and  Carla Green  from  North Wales Road Runners , this popular annual 5-mile race from Deganwy Quay to the RSPB Nature Reserve, and back via Conwy Cob, always attracts over 350-plus mixed ability runners who raise thousands of pounds for charity. The main charity includes generous donations to Children’s Cancer charities, and for the past few years it has been run in memory of a young local student Rohan Ingley, who sadly lost his life due to cancer, and has been known as 'Rohan's Run.' Report by Don Hale. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com   It was a glittering afternoon of trophies and celebrations for members of North Wales Road Runners at Colwyn Bay Cricket Club last Sunday following the club’s annual festive handicap race at Rhos on Sea. Report by Don Hale. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   It was back to the cold wind, rain, and numerous puddles on the Conwy 5k parkrun course last Saturday as two-hundred mixed ability athletes returned following a few weeks of stop, starts, and cancellations due to various storms. This week’s event also paid tribute to former regular parkrunner Rob Porter , who sadly lost his life whilst taking part at a similar event at Conwy almost exactly 5-years ago. Report by Don Hale. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com   Twenty-four members of NWRRC took part in the annual Christmas club handicap race, which this year was staged from the Rhos on Sea clock tower to the renovated far end of the promenade and back over a 4.5-mile course. Well organised with times recorded and verified by  Carla Green  and  Elizabeth Driscoll , with support from other members, the handicap rules this time included each runner having to hand in their watches and mobile phones, and the need to predict their finishing times, so that no one knew their exact pace, or whether their estimated times were likely to be accurate, until they actually reached the finish line. Five long serving members of Prestatyn Running Club recognised at festive lunch .    A total of over 200 years of involvement in athletics by five members of  Prestatyn Running Club were recognised at a pre-Christmas lunch.  The club is unique throughout the region in having so many long serving  members who are still active, and tribute to their remarkable record was  paid by Bernie Jones , secretary of the North Wales Cross-Country Association  at an event at the Eagle and Child, Gwaenysgor.  Welsh Athletics meritorious awards for at least 15 years' service were  presented to former club chairman Mike Davis and to the current post-holder  Duncan Longley.   Duncan joined the club in the mid-1990s and has filled a variety of roles,  including chief marshal at regional ...

British Masters Indoor Pentathlon/3000m/open events Urgent update: Thank you for the prompt response from many people but we still need more. The survey closes at 9 am tomorrow morning.   https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com Dear Masters Athletes, Our indoor meeting at Sheffield has become a regular fixture in the BMAF winter season in recent years but it always a challenge because it is much more expensive than Lee Valley.  This isn't critical if we get good turnout but after making a provisional booking the venue for 26 January we have delayed making a final decision by various resourcing issues. This week is now the crunch time to confirm the event is going ahead.  We need a large turnout to make it financially viable, but we are very reluctant to cancel it. The facilities there are superb and there nothing comparable within 160 miles. Special tribute to the late veteran athletic champion - Professor Anthony (Tony) Crocker - RIP. Report by Roger Garland.   It is with sadness that I am writing to inform you of the recent death of Tony Crocker.  Tony was an exceptional “Vet” athlete for many years as a member of the Droitwich Club and MMAC, still holding no less than eight MVTFL records across four disciplines and several different age categories. He was also very successful at Regional, National, European, and World Championship level, winning a hatful of gold medals whilst setting records within Great Britain and overseas.    Although the start of his athletics career pre-dated Power of 10, the amazing performances later in his career are very well documented.    We ow...
