URGENT UPDATE: It has just been agreed and confirmed by Welsh Masters Athletics officials that the forthcoming meeting in Cardiff at the National Indoor Athletics Centre on 12th January will include our 800m and 1500m championships.

 

*Also, please note: Brett Davis, a Director of Welsh Masters Athletics Limited, has also confirmed some important updates to some other varied indoor events:

 

* The 3000m championships on the 15th December is still taking entries.

* The 800m and 1500m on the 12th January will be available to enter any day now.

* Sprints will be covered at the meeting on the 26th January.

* We will be considering if we have any options for field events.

* Another update for members is that the vests t-shirts and crop tops, top up order is here today, so will be able to process outstanding orders and take new orders. I will be in touch with people who have outstanding orders  to arrange payment. 

 

Welsh Masters Athletics Ltd director Rod Davies has just confirmed the details and entry requirements for the Welsh Masters Indoor Championships.

Confirmation message from Rod: “If you have been wondering when the Welsh Masters Indoor Championships will take place, please read on...The 3000’s will take place at the National Indoor Athletics Centre, Cardiff, on Sunday 15th December.

Cardiff Metropolitan University Christmas Classic 2024 (inc Welsh 3000m Championships)

 

Enter as open event: we'll pick you up from the members list. If you prefer a shorter run, the 800, 1500, and probably 400, will be at the same venue on Sunday 12 January, and the sprints (60, 200, and possibly 400) on Sunday 26 January. Entries for the 60 will get two runs: only the first will count as our championship.


*Please note that you will have to renew your membership for the January meetings. Membership renewals will open in two weeks' time.

    Why couldn't the rest of the Welsh Masters Indoor Championships been incorporated into the North Wales Indoor T&F Championships?

It was a proud moment this weekend for athletics coach, MC and promoter, John Hatton as he saw his new running protegee  Sharon Buckley – a well-known former North Wales midwife - cross the finish line at the challenging Conwy half-marathon with a remarkable time. John, who is heavily involved with North Wales Road Runners , Conwy parkrun , and is also a keen supporter and promoter of a host of charity events, confirmed: “Over the last 6 months I have been training Sharon, who is 60, to run her first half-marathon which she did today in 2.34.17, which is a fantastic achievement. “Sharon was a highly respected midwife in North Wales, and at one time she received an award as the top midwife in the Betsi Cadwalader Health Board for her dedicated service to the community.” *John Hatton was on hand last Sunday morning

Photos by John Hatton and Lesley Goodson. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com   There was a great turn-out of some thirty-one North Wales Road Runners amongst a massive entry of nearly 3,000 mixed ability athletes, who took on the mighty challenge of the Conwy half-marathon last Sunday. Described as one of the toughest half-marathons in the country, and following a picturesque but extremely tough course from Conwy Castle to Llandudno and around the Great Orme, some six members claimed podium places, including one age cat victory, two second places, and three third places, in addition to claiming numerous PBs. Martin Green  who has dual registration for both NWRRC and  Meirionnydd RC , had a fine run after finishing 9th overall with a chip time of just 1 hour 17 minutes and 3 seconds, and he was 2nd in his M50 age cat.  Jo

URGENT APPEAL TO HELP SAVE MENAI TRACK AND FIELD CLUB FROM FOLDING... She confirmed this week: “Menai track & field is a successful NW athletics club with over 170 juniors and 20 seniors, but unfortunately due to lack of volunteers the future of the club is uncertain. We need to fill key committee roles within the club including chair, treasurer, secretary, plus a number of other roles. “Without these roles the club cannot run. Will performed well in his MV50 age cat on a rather hilly and challenging course despite only just recovering from injury and seemed satisfied after finishing 29th overall in thirty-three minutes and one-second. *Jonathan Kettle (*above), led the NWRRC team home at Conwy parkrun. Hot pace and personal best times despite a cool morning at Conwy parkrun... Report by Don Hale. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   It was a cool, dry, and crisp day at Conwy parkrun last Saturday morning, yet several elite runners set a hot pace right from the start and their efforts encouraged many of the three hundred plus other club and social runners to record some excellent personal best times. Jonathan Kettle  from  North Wales Road Runners  just missed out on a top three placing, but he was pleased with 4th spot and won his VM50 cat in a very competitive section with a fine run in 18.43.  He led home a strong team of fourteen members with  Will Williams  also in good form and claiming 7th place in 19.32, and 2nd in the same cat as Jonathan. Stuart Culverhouse  had another consistent performance in 12th place in 20.16, with  Steve Mason  52nd in 23.23, whilst master vet  Rob Fryer
