About the author: Ian Ansell Marshall.

I am Ian, the youngest of five boys and the only one to be born in London as my parents moved there from Yorkshire. I went to a comprehensive school in London, gained "A" levels in the Humanities and went on to a college in London where I gained a BA and a teaching degree.

My childhood memories centre around reading and I was taken by my mother to the library every week, sometimes twice. As a teenager, my passion for reading remained but I also played football to a decent level and then found the wonders of the guitar. I only have 7 but each one is specific to the music I play - blues, classical, slide and rock.

My interest in History is far ranging and I like to think I have a good knowledge of, Hitler"s Germany, The Spanish Civil War, The American Civil War, The Russian Revolution, The Vikings and The Slave Trade. My interest in the latter took me to Barbados where I was asked, along with other teachers from England and America, to interview locals and produce a series of lessons to be taught in England and America.

I started my career in London, then moved to The Cayman Islands for two years and ended my teaching career in an Academy in NE England where I had an interest in working with an IT specialist to produce work for Able and Talented pupils.

Once retired, there is only so much time I could play football, ride a bike, play the guitar and walk the dog so, I thought, now was the time to re- ignite my love of History as I was no longer talking about it all day in a classroom.

I am lucky to live on the NE coast overlooking the sea where I can walk for miles and get inspiration. I find weaving factual and fictional characters into a story is both challenging and exciting, but rewarding.

The final volume of Ian Ansell Marshall’s Russian saga, stretching from 1914 to 1945.

This volume traces the rise of Stalin and his influence over the events of the time during the 1930’s and 1940’s and how this effects the lives of a collection of idealists and individuals drawn into the maelstrom of European history at the time.
From Cable Street to the Gulag, from the Spanish Civil War to the influx of American workers to Russia following the Great Depression the story shows how these people were swept away by the events of the tumultuous times and how they fought to survive them.

A novel of the Russian Civil War: 1919, 1920.

The war is over and the soldiers are going home, back to the lives they once had. For some this is easy, but for others like the Russian soldiers from the Western Front going home will present difficult challenges.

They return to a land torn by revolution and famine. To a land where the Bolsheviks are fighting for their survival in a civil war of Reds against Whites. Into this maelstrom steps the men of the Russian battalion. This story follows a band of soldiers and the challenges they face in a world they thought they knew, but now turned upside down. Situs Inversus.
