Three Road Runners ran well in the Inter-regional cross-country champs at Newtown.

Three North Wales Road Runners competed well in the Inter-regional cross-country championships at Dolerw Park, Newtown, last Saturday, and each recorded some excellent times, with one member even winning a prestigious team medal.

Cheryl Frost, Kay Hatton and Steve Gardner were selected to represent the North Wales regional team in the Senior Women and Senior Men’s Masters races, following some promising results in recent NW Cross-country league meetings.

And at the weekend Cheryl formed part of a successful five-women squad that packed well and clinched the 3rd team spot in the Senior Women and Master Women’s race, finishing 105th overall, and she was the 5th team counter, winning a bronze medal, and celebrating 13th place in her MW55 age cat in 29.32.

Kay Hatton also had an impressive run, and she was 121st overall, and 20th in her MW55-64 age cat in 31.07, narrowly missing out on a team placing.

Steve Gardner enjoyed a positive run in 88th place overall in the Senior Men and Master Men’s race in 36.40, and he was 3rd in his MM55 age cat. After the event, he said: “I was very happy with my performance and felt very strong.”

Cheryl Frost later confirmed: “I won a bronze medal in the cross-country championships at Newtown as the 5th counter. Kay also ran a great time but unfortunately, she didn’t quite get into the medals.” 

Cheryl’s team medal winning colleagues included: Emma Collins (Denbigh), 5th in 28.06; Ceri Cook (Buckley RC), 8th in 29.00; Debbie Cattermole (Meirionnydd RC), 10th in 29.01; Joy Hickman (West Cheshire), 12th in 29.01, and Cheryl Frost (NWRRC), 13th in 29.32.

Competing in the Male Masters 65-69 age category I finished just in front of the in-form David Warren, Cardigan AC. Report by Don Hale. donhaleblog.blogspot.com/2026 coastandcountry.blog A North Wales ultra-distance couple took part last Sunday in what they described as ‘the most terrifying 10k race they have ever run!’ NWRRC members Ben and Sarah Hudson competed in the  Pulford 10k race  on Sunday, which now has a very challenging cut-off time of just 50-minutes!  Ben eventually finished in 375th place in 43 minutes and 19 seconds, whilst Sarah was under extreme pressure to beat the clock but successfully ran home in 48.53. Sarah later explained:  “ I came 443rd out of 462. It’s a rapid race, and there were 399 guys who finished and only 63 women!  I can officially say that was the most terrifying 10k race I have ever run, with a 50-minute time cut off.  "It always used to be for sub-45 runners and they have opened it wider.. we got places after ...

The Team GB athlete, and  NWRRC  member, who was representing his second claim club  GOG Triathlon , improved on his previous impressive result - and a silver medal - at the recent Welsh Sprint Duathlon Championships just a fortnight ago, to win his MV60-64 cat following a strong overall performance. Report by Don Hale. donhaleblog.blogspot.com/2026 coastandcountry.blog   North Wales couple Karl and Rachel Morris competed in the Oulton Park Metric Marathon last Sunday and they both recorded some excellent finishing times around this iconic motor racing circuit. Karl, who represented NWRC, came 17th overall out of 58 finishers in a very good time of 2 hours 20 minutes and 18 seconds around six laps of the racetrack, and he was fourth in his M45 age category.  And Rachel also hit top gear and celebrated in style following an amazing new PB, which smashed her previous metric marathon results, mainly due to her intense marathon training.
