NWRRC veteran track athlete Michael Finnie won his M65 age cat at the North Wales Indoor Open 60m dash at the Deeside Indoor Athletics Centre at Coleg Cambria, Deeside, last Saturday.

He braved the challenging weather conditions en-route caused by Storm Bert, to take part in the sprint event, and he was just a fraction of second down on his previous best time, but said he was still pleased with his fine result of 11.23 seconds.

After the event, he admitted that unfortunately the road conditions had restricted the number of competitors, but confirmed: “Not bad, since I haven’t been able to train much due to weather and flu the past week. I think I was a quarter of a second slower than my best.”

Michael is hoping to improve on his performance in January during the North Wales Indoor Championships at the same venue.

Another competitor at the weekend venue was Wrexham AAC master vet athlete Paul Brooks, from the North Wales Regional Athletics Council, who took part in the throwing events, and he too was slightly down on his previous efforts.

*Paul Brooks (*above) performed well but he was slightly disappointed with his results from the Indoor meeting at Deeside.

Paul admitted: “Slightly disappointed at the Indoor meeting in Coleg Cambria today. Two warm-ups and three throws of 6.73, 6.82 and 6.91. I was hoping for 7m! I can’t complain too much as it’s the best since January, and I haven’t trained all week with the weather. Onwards to the indoor champs in January. Thanks to Amy and all the officials for another fine meeting.”

Other race results:

*Cheshire: Martin Green finished 2nd overall but won his MV50 age cat at the Oulton Park half marathon on Sunday with another superb run finishing in 1.18.06.

*Wilmslow: Harry Driscoll competed in the Wilmslow 10k race on Sunday and enjoyed a good result finishing in 286th place in 38.34.
