Over five hundred determined runners completed the weather-beaten Bangor City 10k on Sunday with many elite athletes recording some excellent times despite the challenging conditions.

And praise was given to quick thinking by the race organiser Chris Yorke from RunWales for overcoming many problems with debris on parts of the half-marathon route, which unfortunately forced the late postponement of this associated race but allowed the 10k to continue.

In this latter event, Bangor University AC student Andrew Moore was the first man home in just 32 minutes and 51 seconds, with Ed Slaughter (Porthcawl AC) second in 33.22, and Martin Sunderland (Woking) third in 34.39.

The first female finisher was Sarah Attwood (Crook AC) in 38.48, and Llio Jones (Cybi Striders) was the runner-up in 40.42 chip/40.47 gun, with Laura Coucill (Salford Harriers), a very close third 40.32 chip/40.49 gun. *NOTE: Chip times are shown, but the gun times always determine the final placings.

Many local clubs were well represented amongst the 523 finishers including eleven members of NWRRC, with Stuart Culverhouse leading the team back in 28th place in 41.09, and he was second in his M50 age cat. Steve Roberts also finished second in his M60 cat in 75th place in 45.25 chip/45.32 gun, and he was just ahead of club colleague Daniel Henell, who was 79th in 45.16 chip/45.50 gun.

Kay Hatton enjoyed a great run out and she won her F60 age cat as the 22nd female in 48.27, with Cheryl Frost the 31st female finisher in 49.21, and she was second in her F55 cat. Nia Lister was also on top form in 76th place in 54.35, with Carol Moss 80th in 54.54.

And well done to Master vet Rob Fryer who was 2nd in his F70 cat in 193rd place, in 55.00, with Gwennan Charlton the 94th female in 56.11. Helen Hannam was the 101st female in 57.28, and super vet Mike Hayton enjoyed a good performance again, and he won his M75 age cat in 61.47. *There was praise too for Liz Evans (GOG Triathlon) who was the 64th female finisher and she won her F70 age cat with a good time of 53.24.
