North Wales’ athletic couple Martin and Carla Green celebrated top marathon results last weekend whilst representing Wales in the Abingdon Marathon.

The Welsh Master athlete who is a member of Meirionnydd RC finished in 10th place overall and celebrated a great run in 2 hrs 36 mins and 26 seconds and also won his VM50 age cat.

Martin later shared his joy with his wife and fellow star runner Carla Green (NWRRC), was also in top form on the day, and she too was pleased with another good result in 3 hrs 23 mins.

After the run Martin exclusively confirmed: Another great day doing what I love best, with the ones I love, and for the country I love. This was a Welsh Masters fixture v England at Shrewsbury

“Neither Carla nor I were at our best, but we showed up and put in a decent shift. That must be at least the tenth time representing Wales. It’s something I have always dreamed of as a child and it is always the utmost honour. Thanks to team manager Bernie Jones, and the future Luke Northall for the opportunity.”

Martin additionally described his unique experience of competing at the top level in this marathon and explained: “A great day at the Abingdon, a bit windy for fast times, which made it more of a race than a time trial. The training definitely paid off (Diolch Russell Bentley as the further it went, the less I struggled.

“Congrats to Carla, who has got the monkey off her back, finishing in an incredible time 3:23 after sandbagging a 3:30 attempt. Super impressive after all she’s been through the past few years and proves you just need to get your head down and keep grafting and the results will come.

“Great to see old friends along with new, a lovely little group to work with including my old mate Paul Jones, who never fails to impress and Mark Jennings, who put a load of graft in.

“Big thanks thanks to the family for all the support Claire Maynard, Lisa Brade and the clan, and standing in the cold handing out bottles, Suzi Lou, and a bed for the night from the surrogate Mum (Aunty Linda).  Time to recharge the batteries now after a solid 13 weeks graft before we try again in the Spring.”
