 The World’s Steepest Street Run - in Harlech!

Tomorrow (Sat) marks the start of a really tough Welsh challenge on the streets of Harlech, where hundreds of athletes will attempt to run the steepest street in the country.
Race organisers Always Aim High now provide the background to this extraordinary event and we happy to confirm the following details: -

There are ten criteria a street must meet to be in contention with being named the steepest, including having to be a public thoroughfare and being fully surfaced, as well having buildings alongside the road.
The awarding of the Guinness World Record to Ffordd Pen Llech, and the battle from the previous holders in New Zealand to take the title back has captured imaginations worldwide and people have flocked to Harlech to walk, cycle, or even roll down the street - you just can't beat a bit of Welsh pride mixed with a sprinkling of the eccentric.
With Harlech already on the Always Aim High Events map as the location for our much-loved sprint triathlon and duathlon, people started to ask, and we just had to deliver!
Since our inaugural event in 2022 people have been begging us to run it again so they could come back to take on this unique and novel route, cheered on by the people of beautiful, friendly Harlech.
This event is an Always Aim High Community Event.
Profits from our Community Events go towards supporting amazing local projects and community groups like Harlech Triathlon Club, The Community Council and Mountain Rescue.

Bernie Jones , who was one of the main race organisers, and is the secretary of the NW XC League later confirmed: “A  Big thank you to  Prestatyn Running Club, Denbigh Harriers  and all the marshalls and volunteers for putting on today’s race. Special report by Don Hale. donhaleblog.blogspot.com/2025   Popular runner and charity fundraiser Dougie Graham has faced a problematic time battling with injuries over this past year, but he has been steadily building back his fitness in readiness for another attempt to run the London Marathon for a worthy cause in 2026. His heroic efforts were unfortunately curtailed earlier this year when he collected a niggling injury that sidelined him for many months, yet this didn’t stop him from volunteering and marshalling at many local parkruns and other events. Special report by Don Hale. donhaleblog.blogspot.com/2025   Storm Amy forced the postponement of numerous parkruns throughout the UK last Saturday with North Wales events in particular badly affected by course flooding, heavy rain and gale force winds. Regular events at Newborough Forest, Nant y Pandy, Wepre, Penrhyn Castle, Conwy, Llangollen, Prestatyn, and Wrexham’s  Park in the Past parkruns  were all affected, with the Ruthin Memorial parkrun one of the few survivors. The Ruthin event on the Memorial Playing Fields, attracted 146 hardy runners including 74 visitors, with many travelling from far afield after searching hard to find a live parkrun, and despite the challenging conditions, ten people still recorded some very worthy personal best (PB) times. Special report by Don Hale. donhaleblog.blogspot.com/2025   Two North Wales Road Runners tackled the windswept Chester Marathon on Sunday and they both performed well, especially given the extremely challenging conditions. Steve Bozier  was a little apprehensive about running this distance at first after taking some time out from longer races, but he ran well in chip positions of 844th out of 6,698 entrants in 3 hours 26 minutes and 12 seconds, and afterwards he said: A great day back racing again, my first marathon in a year, and only my second race this year.  “I really enjoyed that and only entered two weeks ago with just six weeks of training as a warm-up for the  Eryri Marathon in three weeks. Bangor City 10k race saved by quick thinking to help defeat the weather.

And praise was given to quick thinking by the race organiser  Chris Yorke  from  RunWales  for overcoming many problems with debris on parts of the half-marathon route, which unfortunately forced the late postponement of this associated race but allowed the 10k to continue. NWCCL - St Asaph - CROSS COUNTRY RACES TO GO AHEAD. LATEST UPDATE:  donhaleblog.blogspot.com/2025 Well Storm Amy came as predicted and whilst it hasn’t totally passed through, it has calmed enough that WE WILL GO ahead with today’s races as planned. However, it remains windy and therefore would not suggest club gazebo’s being erected. There’s rain forecasted so be prepared for a ‘proper’ day of cross country. However, given the coastal location, the exposure on course, and the adverse weather conditions currently forecast, it isn’t possible to proceed safely.
