A Dozen GOG’s celebrated podium places and age cat wins at Conwy parkrun and Liz claims the top veteran spot.

Report by Don Hale.

Twelve GOG Triathletes took part in last week’s Conwy parkrun and collected seven podium places including two age cat victories for the ladies, and a top three finish for Alun Brown.

Alun was the first club runner home in 2nd place overall, and he also claimed the 2nd spot in his MV40 cat in 18.24. He was followed by Andy Jones 25th in 22.23, with Michelle Farrell 30th with a new course PB of 22.56, and she came 1st in her VW40 age cat.

Andy Brazier
(*pictured above) had a good run in 32nd place in 22.59, and he finished 2nd in his VM55 cat, with John Farrell 49th in 24.30, with Graeme Tunstall 55th in 25.11. Veteran Liz Evans was another cat winner of her VW70 cat in 64th place in 26.02, and Nicola Tomlinson finished well in 74th place in 26.29 and she was 3rd in her VW40 cat.

Rob Stewart enjoyed a good run in 82nd place in 27.22, with Alison Shephard 98th in 28.20 and she claimed the 2nd spot in her VW65 cat. Andrea Cody ran home in 31.37 in 127th place overall, and she finished 3rd in her VW35 cat, with Sarah Ellwood 139th in 33.42.

*Conwy parkrun managed to dodge the snow last weekend, but numbers were down slightly due to a late thaw that still left the threat of ice on this problematic 5k course.

Despite some potential problems, visiting athlete Ian Lawton (Mersey Triathlon) kept up a good pace and was the first man home in 19 minutes and 8 seconds, and he was nearly two minutes ahead of his nearest rival Alun Brown(GOG Triathlon), who finished 2nd in 18.24, with Alan Bryson 3rd in 18.57.

The first female finisher was Jackie Lee on her course debut. She was 12th overall in 20.49, with Ellie Leonard 17th and the 2nd female in 21.34. Becky Sleath (Newcastle University) was the 3rd female runner in 21st place overall in 22.02.

*Praise was given to the Conwy run director, and to all the volunteers and marshals, who made the parkrun event such a success.
