GOG Triathlon members ran their luck with 7 podium places, including five age cat wins!

Report by Don Hale. (*Conwy parkrun 25/3/23).

GOG Triathlon entered thirteen members at Conwy but contrary to belief, this number proved very lucky as they claimed seven podium places including five age category victories!

Victoria Cole was the first club athlete home, and she was also the 1st female finisher, with a new PB of 21.20, to also win her VW40 age cat, finishing 10th overall

Andy Brazier was 2nd in his MV55 cat in 23rd place in 23.04, with Steven Owen finishing 29th in 23.15, and Merf Jones was in close pursuit in 32nd place in 23.30.

Tom Simpson finished 64th in 25.35, and Stephen Dutton was 70th in 25.52, with Claire Parsley enjoying another good run in 71st place, and she was only three seconds behind Stephen but won her VW45 age cat in 25.55. Andrew Ellwood claimed 76th place in 26.04, with Nicola Tomlinson 80th, and 2nd VW40 cat in 26.25.

*Liz Evans (*above left) with Andy Brazier.

Liz Evans won her VW70 cat again in 26.59 in 85th place, and in stark age contrast, student Caitlin Owen also won her SW18-19 cat in 97th place in 27.35. Master veteran Alan Benn had a remarkable run this week to additionally win his MV75-80 age cat in 27.40, with Sarah Ellwood finished in 174th place in 35.39.

* It was a breeze for teenager Morgan Kendall in blustery conditions at Conwy parkrun. Locally based student Morgan Kendall, representing Durham City Harriers, made light of the rather cool and blustery conditions at Conwy parkrun on Saturday to record a great new course PB of just 16 minutes and 30 seconds as the first male runner home.

Teenage prospect Morgan, aka Banana man, from a previous fancy dress dash at this same parkrun, finished nearly two minutes ahead of his nearest rival, veteran Road Runner Martin Green, in 19.25, and debutant veteran John Brogan in 19.49.

The first female runner was Victoria Cole (GOG Triathlon) 10th overall in 21.20, with Alice Johnston (Les Croupiers) just ten-seconds behind in 2nd place, and 13th overall, in 21.30, whilst teenager Ella Grundy (Colwyn Bay AC) finished well in 37th place in 23.53. There were 211 finishers.

Simon Cole (*above) led the GOG’s home as they claimed six age cat victories.

Simon Cole led the GOG squad home at Conwy.

Report by Don Hale.

Simon Cole led the GOG squad home with another great performance, finishing in 2nd place overall, and he also won his MV40 age cat in 18 minutes dead!

Andy Jones also had a good run finishing 11th and 1st MV45 cat in 21.11, with Jack Buckley finishing 17th overall, and 2nd in his SM25 cat with a PB in 22.24. The club entered eighteen athletes and won six 1st place age cats.

Two-hundred and fifty-nine mixed ability entrants from all parts of the country helped to boost the numbers at Conwy parkrun in near perfect conditions. And in stark contrast to the previous week’s icy course, this time runners were treated to dazzling sunshine and a warm breeze, but local club numbers remained down due to several competing fixtures.

The numbers however, also included sixty-three first time runners, twenty-three new PBs, and a large contingent from Manchester and the Midlands for the Colwyn Bay Metric Marathon the next day.
