It was another bright, sunny, but cold Saturday morning at Conwy parkrun last weekend as 239 entrants from all parts of the UK enjoyed the splendours of this attractive but challenging 5k course.

This event included a very fast-paced dash by two young and promising athletes who dominated the parkrun from start to finish with Tomos Land the 1st runner home in just 17 minutes and 18 seconds, closely followed by rival John Davies (Eryri Harriers) in 2nd place, who was just twenty-seconds behind, despite a new PB of 17.38, with Ian Slattery 3rd in 18.58.

The 1st Lady was Tara Truman (Stroud) in 20.38, with Alice Johnston (Les Croupiers) 2nd in 20.44 and Anna Smith (Hedge End) 3rd in 20.50.

GOG Triathlon entered nine members and claimed five podium places including two 1st place finishes in their respective age categories, and a deserved family age cat double on the veteran podium for popular husband and wife team Ann and John d’Albuquerque.

Lizzie Irvine led the GOG’s team home in 36th place overall and the 6th female runner, who also won her VW35 age cat in 22.41, but Lizzie had a battle to the line with colleague Graeme Tunstall who finished just one place and one second behind her.

Tom Simpson was 54th in 23.53, and Billy Thomas claimed 2nd place in his MV35 cat finishing 62nd in 24.41. Jack Buckley was 80th in 25.32, with Nicola Tomlinson 89th and 3rd in her FW40 age cat in 26.05.

Master veteran Alan Benn had a fine run in 107th place, and he also won his MV75 age cat in 27.48, and fellow veteran Ann d’Alburquerque (*pictured below) also won her FW70 cat in 27.50, and she was only one place and two seconds behind Alan.

Wayne Roberts finished in 147th place in 30.18, whilst another notable master veteran John d’Alburquerque was on form and claimed the 3rd spot in his MV75 cat in 151st place in 30.41. Meanwhile, Amanda Collins was 165th in 32.02, and veteran Liz McIndoe finished well in 206th place in 37.05, with Dinah Hazeldine 223rd in 39.38.

*Praise was given to the Conwy run director Mark Jessett, and to all the volunteers and marshals, who made the parkrun event such a success.
