Artist Elizabeth Haines confirms her Open Studio dates over the Easter holidays with some exciting new paintings and pastels.

Elizabeth explained: “Many of my paintings are based on the Preselis, where I’ve lived for 50 years. They may evolve from studies of a particular place - my sketchbooks are full of drawings of the landscape both at home and abroad, as well as anything else which seizes my attention. I draw all the time.
“My picture subjects evolve from things which I have seen and contemplated: often I start again on top of a discarded image, some of which may be retained as an undercurrent.
“As the work itself evolves, the music of shape and colour seem to take on the appearance of something I once saw or experienced, perhaps forgotten until that moment – I never know.
“I work, I try to avoid literal representation, responding to the initial marks in a dialogue with them, enjoying the element of serendipity. Painting in the studio is often on a tightrope between the ‘real’ and the imaginary world.
“I love the landscape. But even more than landscape I love paint and using it lands you in all kinds of unexpected places.
“And so, my paintings become a fusion of memories, observation, and imagination. A place where dreams and reality meet.
