Huge congratulations to Arwel Lewis who was presented with the Services to Athletics Award at the Welsh Athletics Awards evening last weekend. 

Arwel competes regularly for Eryri Harriers in all disciplines and has competed for Wales on the road, cross country, trail and mountain. He also puts in a huge amount of time as a volunteer for his club, is a race adjudicator and a race organiser. 


Arwel is also the fell/trail representative on the NWRAC and WA General Council, Welsh Athletics mountain/trail secretary and team manager as well as Welsh Ultra representative and team manager. Such a well-deserved award!


A modest Arwel later acknowledged: “I am very honoured and feel very privileged to have received the Welsh Athletics Services to Athletics award. Being a staunch supporter of Welsh Athletics and all aspects of the sport. 


“It is a sport for all, and I am more than willing to give up my spare time to ensure everyone has a great and enjoyable experience in the sport. I am extremely grateful to everyone who have helped me over the years and very appreciative of the many other volunteers who do so much for the sport.”

A very challenging and muddy course at the Bala cross country fixture in the latest NW XC League event... In the Senior Men's race Andrew Moore (Bangor University) was the first man home in 31 minutes and 12 seconds, but he was only 13-seconds ahead of his keen rival Rhodri Owen (Meirionnydd RC) in 31.23, and Rhodri's clubmate Daniel Kashi in 31.44. The Meirionnydd team packed well and they had five members in the top 10 finishing places and topped the team table ahead of Wrexham AAC and Buckley, who were both within a whisker of each other. *There were 144 finishers. Well done to one of Welsh Master Athletic's top sprint champions in Russell Whiting, who has just had two of his outstanding track results verified by Chris Prussia, the WMAL records co-ordinator. Mark Davies bravely completed the Conwy half-marathon. Special report by Don Hale. donhaleblog.blogspot.com/2025 Former fell and mountain champion racer Mark Davies put in a tremendous display of true grit and determination last Sunday as he tackled the gruelling Conwy half marathon, barely two years after receiving life-threatening injuries as a hit and run victim. Mark is an award winning multi-athlete who has spent all his time since the accident trying to re-build his life and his body after such horrific injuries and has gradually been able to take part in some local parkruns. Although a long way from his previous fitness regime, he decided to try and gradually increase his training mileage over recent months with the aim of running the Conwy half to help fundraise for Headway, the brain injury charity association, that has helped him to partially recover from his ordeal.
