NW Running quartet prepares for the London Marathon and Happy Faces children’s charity appeal…
Special sporting feature: Introduction by Don Hale.

This is another special community-based story within a new series of unique features looking at the life, careers, hopes and ambitions, of many talented and dedicated athletes, sports people, and fundraisers within North Wales.
This particular feature highlights the dedicated training and fundraising activities of four popular North Wales athletes who are currently preparing to run the iconic London Marathon next month, whilst hoping to raise thousands of pounds for Happy Faces, a local charity based in Rhos, that raises funds to support sick, disabled and disadvantaged children in North Wales.
The four charity runners include Dougie Graham, Pete Brocklehurst (Brock), Dylan Williams (Dyl), and Jon Hayward.
This is Dougie Graham's personal introduction, and he includes the background story about this amazing quartet’s marathon and fundraising efforts.
Dougie says: - “Pete, Jon, Dyl, and I, will all be running this year’s London Marathon. We are sincerely grateful to Ray Herbert and the volunteers at the children’s charity Happy Faces for giving us the privilege of running the Marathon on 27th April 2025.
“This will be the first time that three of our team will be taking part in the London Marathon, but all four of us are so proud to be representing the Happy Faces charity, and to take part in this special event.
“We hope to do ourselves, family, friends and Happy Faces proud. Pete Brocklehurst has detailed his regimented training, and he explained: “The journey started mid-December and has been 5-6 days a week.
"It’s tough but we all know with every dark cold rainy run, we are one step closer to not only our dream of a marathon start, but a big financial help to an amazing local charity too, so this makes it all worthwhile, so Win-Win!”
“He has also been able to gain trust after borrowing gym bikes from Move & Burn Fitness, charity fundraising signs from Autotop Signs, and the premises of Clares Department Store, whilst Asda at Llandudno have also hosted us and allowed us to raise funds.
“We have been overwhelmed to date, by the generous support from these local businesses as well as everyone so far who has donated, so hopefully we can reach our target.
“We are all keen Conwy Parkrun runners / volunteers, and we enjoy running with various running clubs including Dalzell Runners, North Wales Road Running Club, GOGS, Conwy Trail Crew and Black Cloak Runners.”

About Dougie Graham.
I will be running the London Marathon for the first time in April. I have a charity place, and I will be raising money for the Happy Faces charity based in Llandrillo-yn-Rhos. It’s fully dependant on its amazing volunteers who give their time, support, and skills for free. They have been able to provide equipment, and they have funded essential trips to a huge number of children over the years, which has made a huge positive difference to their lives.
Please donate and support me in raising as much money as possible for Happy Faces. My target amount is £1,500. The fundraising will keep me motivated, and give me a boost, especially for when I do my cold, winter training in the lead up to the Marathon.

About Dylan Williams (*right):
So, the mid-life crisis continues...... and I'll be running the 2025 London Marathon on behalf of the charity Happy Faces. Ray from the charity has given me this opportunity, and I'm proud to be running for a local based charity close to home. I want to help them in their quest to raise money and awareness for sick, disabled, and disadvantaged children, within the local area.
I would be grateful for any donation and support. Thank you very much.

About Jon Hayward (*shown above):
Jon Hayward ran the London Marathon last year for Happy Faces, and he was keen to raise awareness yet again for this thoroughly deserving charity, and to improve upon his previous finishing time, following injury, just before last year’s event.
I am super excited that I will be running the London Marathon on April 27th. After getting a foot injury last year and not being able to run it to my full ability, I have decided to give it another go! I have another charity place. Running the London Marathon in 2024 was an incredible experience, and a day that I won't forget anytime soon, especially after getting injured, and not being able to train properly last year. I'm grateful for another charity spot with this charity!
Please donate and support me in raising as much money as possible for the Happy Faces children’s charities. My target amount is £1,500 but I’m pretty sure we can raise more.
The fundraising will keep me motivated, and give me a boost, especially for when I do my cold, winter training in the lead up to the Marathon.
I will also be doing bucket collections in local supermarkets so keep an eye out for me. And I am looking forward to another victory lap and hope to achieve a PB this time around.

About Pete Brocklehurst (*right):
I am really looking forward to finally running this iconic race. I really appreciate any financial help you can give. The London Marathon has become an annual, inspiring and colourful fixture in the world’s sporting calendar since the inaugural race on 29 March 1981, a celebration of fun, fundraising, and fancy dress.
Over the years more than a million people have completed the 26.2-mile course – which runs from Blackheath to The Mall, with a spectacular finish in front of Buckingham Palace, showcasing the very best that the capital city has to offer.
What’s more, these participants have raised over a billion pounds for charity and there have been countless amazing tales of human achievement throughout the event’s history – living up to its aim of helping participants ‘to have fun and provide some happiness and sense of achievement in a troubled world.
