It was another bumper turn-out at the Penrhyn Castle parkrun last Saturday on a cool and breezy morning with 276 mixed ability athletes tackling the rather undulating but picturesque course, which again included numerous ‘Conwy on Tour’ members.

Promising local teenager Noa Vaughan was the 1st finisher overall with a fast time of just 15 minutes and 47 seconds, and he easily won his SM18 age cat, but at the time of writing the second and third finishers remained unknown.

The 1st female athlete however was Gemma Moore (Eryri Harriers), who won her VW40 age cat in 15th place overall with a new PB of 19.02. Gemma’s clubmate Ellin Haf was 2nd (19th), in 19.48, with Ellin Jones 3rd, (26th), with a new PB of 21.06.

*The event attracted six GOG Triathlon members, and their places and times were: Billy Thomas (22nd) in 20.05 on his course debut, with Steve Owen (33rd) in 21.25, Andy Brazier (45th) 22.29, Merf Jones (91st) 25.49. Andrea Grove(133rd) 28.33, and Alison Monks-Roberts (186th) in 32.11.

*Super veteran Sandy Johnston (*above left), with master vet Don Hale, and Kevin Higgins, all recorded good times at Penrhyn parkrun.

*Pictured above - a quartet of Conwy athletes at the Greenfield Valley parkrun (l-r): Stuart Culverhouse, Darren Dentith, Gwyn Williams, and Lis Williams.

Gwyn Williams and colleagues flew the flag at Greenfield Valley: One of the Conwy run directors Gwyn Williams was another tour traveller, and he has reported this week on his trip to Greenfield and confirmed: “Decided to give Greenfield Valley parkrun a try this morning, never done it before so I was keen to see what it was like. Car-pooled with Conwy regular Darren Dentith and instantly bumped into another Conwy regular Stuart Culverhouse on arriving at the car park, and as we went to take our photo, another Conwy regular Lis Williams joined us for the shot.

“Great course utilizing an old railway track running downhill towards Greenfield. Lots of reminders of the area’s industrial heritage on the course, but what was particularly noticeable (and very welcome) was the loud vocal and supportive set of volunteers.

“I had been told beforehand by Greenfield regular Claire Flemington to look out for a ‘wonderful Scotsman’ half-way down, and wonderful he was, and very supportive as he shouted, ‘come on you handsome devils,’ as we galloped past. I was very flattered!

“The loud vocal support from the volunteers at the finish line was very much welcome as it gave me an indication as to how close to the finish I was, coming back up the hill. Thanks to RD Jessica and her fabulous team of volunteers for putting on a brilliant parkrun. Really enjoyed it.”
