NW Road Running trio tackled the unusual Pentir 4.5k Trail & obstacle race...

Three NW Road Runners competed in the midweek Ras Hwyl Pentir 4.5k Trail Race and fun run last Wednesday night and enjoyed the experience at this slightly unusual but friendly village event.

Described by the organisers as a “fun run on quiet roads and fields from the heart of Pentir,” the race surprisingly attracted 105 finishers, including numerous top club and fell runners, over a short but challenging obstacle course.

Jamie Tharme continued his recovery from injury to finish in 16th place overall in 21 minutes and 1 second, and he was 2nd in his MV40 age cat.

Endurance athletes Ben and Sarah Ferguson Hudson also ran well with Ben in 18th place, and just six seconds behind Jamie in 21.07, and he claimed 3rd place in the same cat as Jamie, whilst Sarah finished 35th overall, and the 9th female in 23.25 and she was 4th in her F40 age cat, and just missed out on the 3rd age cat spot by a mere two seconds!

Jamie later remarked: “An evening trail run, but what an unusual race that was, with trail and stop and start, and having to open about ten gates, over an odd distance. I was the 12th male and 16th overall, but I enjoyed it though.”

And Sarah added: “An awesome race, and a great little trail event.”

 

*The race results confirmed that it was a clean sweep by Eryri Harriers for the top three male finishing place, and also for the top two female placings. The overall race winner was Ian Edwards (Eryri Harriers) in 17.02, with Ieuan Belshaw 2nd in 17.56, and Aled Edwards 3rd in 18.37. Gemma Moore was the 1st female finisher in 19.18, with Anna Drinkwater 2nd in 19.27, and Emma Alofs (Cybi Striders) 3rd in 19.44.

Mark Davies bravely completed the Conwy half-marathon. Special report by Don Hale. donhaleblog.blogspot.com/2025 Former fell and mountain champion racer Mark Davies put in a tremendous display of true grit and determination last Sunday as he tackled the gruelling Conwy half marathon, barely two years after receiving life-threatening injuries as a hit and run victim. Mark is an award winning multi-athlete who has spent all his time since the accident trying to re-build his life and his body after such horrific injuries and has gradually been able to take part in some local parkruns. Next North Wales Cross Country League fixture at Bala Note from Tom Roberts about this weekends XC fixture. donhaleblog.blogspot.com/2025 Round 3 Y Bala. The next NW CX League fixture will be at BALA. Car parking is at the Green LL23 7NG, make sure you pay for parking. Toilets are also at this location. The fields are a 5-minute walk from the car park.  Do not try and park closer to the fields. Loads of space for gazebos on the side of the course. The route is a flat course but challenging, there’s a smooth compacted track roughly 150 meters that will take a spike.  Approx distances of the routes are shown below.   We are very lucky to have permission to host this race please respect the fields, ideally do warm ups and cool down on the trail opposite the race fields.
