It was bright and very breezy at the Conwy parkrun on Saturday with over two hundred entrants negotiating the scenic, yet puddle-filled and challenging 5k course.

This week’s surprise guests included Antony and Sally Brown, who visited this venue during their epic 6,000-mile trek around the UK coastline to help raise funds for the RNLI, Cornwall Air Ambulance, and parkrun!

The couple were also celebrating their 34th wedding anniversary, and Antony, who is a member of the Newquay and Par Athletics Club, even took part in the parkrun, and finished well in 54th place in 24.05.

The event also attracted the usual mix of quality club and social runners who coped well with the soggy conditions underfoot. And despite several rivals, the top three finishing places all went to local club runners with Simon Cole(GOG Triathlon) finishing 1st in just 17 minutes and 11 seconds to additionally claim the top spot in his MV40 age cat.

NWRRC members Martin Green and Jonathan Kettle took the next two places respectively with all three finishers battling hard for honours. Martin finished 2nd but won his MV45 age cat in 17.43, and Jonathan was 3rd, and runner-up in the same cat in 17.50.

A team of eleven Road Runners eventually claimed six podium places, including two first places, three second, and one third.

Steve Gardner was the next man back in 8th place and he won his MV60 age cat in 20.00, whilst Steve Bozier made a welcome return to parkrun in 14th place in 20.50, with Tony Price Jones in hot pursuit in 17th place in 21.04.
