Llandudno Urban Night Race success despite the rain
Report by Don Hale.
The recent Llandudno Urban Night Race attracted a good number of mixed ability male, female and junior orienteers to this event despite the rain, and this was the first of an exciting new series of similar races planned for many North Wales towns this winter.
There was keen competition for honours in Llandudno, and the overall senior male winner was Michael Corrales (*pictured below right), a top fell and mountain runner with 970 points, and in second place was Thomas Prebble with 860 pts, with Paddy Walsh a close third with 840 pts.
Jenny Williamson was the female winner with 830 points, with Debbie Morgan a close second with 820 pts, and Sarah Barnwell third with 740 pts.
*The top three juniors included: First: Chris and Griff Near with 740 pts. Second: Grace Emery-Jones, Hayley Turner, and Phoebe with 560 pts; and Third: Harrison and Adrian Leonard, who were close with 550 pts.
*In the team results: First: Andy Brazier and Steve Owen with 720 points. Second Andrew Thomas and Rachel Evans with 700 pts, and third was Jim Lewis, Elowen and Finn with 630 pts, and they finished level on points with Penny Butterfield and Nat Skye in fourth place.
The Llandudno race organiser Gwen Charlton was pleased with the outcome despite it being a rather wet night in town, and afterwards she said: “Thank you to the seventy-eight of you who came along to the first Urban Night Race of the season!
“What a great evening despite the rain! Next up Bangor! Our next event is on Thursday 5th November (7pm start). Pre-entries are now open. Hope to see lots of you there!”
