There was a massive turn-out of some 54 athletes from the GOG Triathlon Club last Sunday for the Llanrwst Sprint Triathlon challenge with Grant Little and Simon Roxburgh both celebrating top podium places.
The event - well organised by the GOGs - attracted 160 quality entrants for the T-1 swim, T-2 cycle and run, with Llewelyn Edwards finishing in 1st place, in 1 hour 7 minutes and 14 seconds, and he also won his senior men’s age cat title. Llewelyn was almost four minutes ahead of his nearest rival, GOG Triathlon athlete, Grant Little, in 1.11.13, who won his MV40-49 cat, and was the 1st GOG member home.
Simon Roxburgh turned in another great performance and finished 3rd overall in 1.12.44, and he was 2nd in the same age category as Grant, and the 2nd GOG member to finish. Simon's other club colleague Andy Jones pushed him all the way to the line in a very close fought battle for honours, with Andy just two-seconds behind, and he was 2nd in his Sen 20-29 age cat.
*Andy Jones (*above) pushed his colleagues all the way for a 4th place finish.
Lee Evans was the third GOG member to finish, and he competed well in 6th place, and was 4th in his MV40 cat in 1.14.11, with Simon Hall winning his super-veteran title (50-59) after finishing 8th in 1.16.07. Andy Raho was hot on Simon’s heels, and he was 9th overall, and the 2nd senior 2 vet (30-39) in 1.16.30. Ben Shacklady ensured the team packed well in a dash to the finish, and he was pleased with 10th place and 3rd in his senior 1 (20-29) cat place in 1-16-47.
Russell Godwin was 12th and the 2nd super vet (50-59) in 1-17.32, and Andrew Jones finished as the 3rd super vet, and in 14th place overall in 1-18-18. Ross Moreton finished 15th and the 4th senior 1 (20-29) in 1-18.55, with Graeme Tunstall close behind in 17th place and the 10th GOG finisher in 1-19.43.
*Simon Roxburgh (*pictured above) later said: “Nothing better than getting a finisher’s medal from my own mini me! A great race at the Llanrwst Sprint Triathlon 2023 today, brilliantly organised by GOG Triathlon Club! Huge thanks and congratulations to all the organising team, marshals, volunteers, and competitors!”
