MARK DAVIES UPDATE: Drunk woman drove off after throwing man '6ft in the air' in hit-and-run Llandudno crash

The Daily Post have just reported on the initial court case (17/8/23) involving hit and run victim Mark Davies, a Welsh Masters Athlete, and a popular North Wales Road Runner. Mark Davies will likely suffer for "years to come" his family have said - Charlotte Brown, of Cysgod Y Castell in Llandudno Junction appeared in court today in relation to the incident

A man will likely suffer for "years to come" due to the actions of a drunk driver. Charlotte Brown, of Cysgod Y Castell in Llandudno Junction, stood before Llandudno Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning wearing a long black cardigan and spoke to confirm her details and admit charges of drink driving, causing serious injury by careless driving and failing to stop after a road accident.

At the ten minute hearing before district judge Paul Conlon, the court was told how 34-year-old Brown was almost three and a half times over the legal drink drive limit when she caused two serious accidents within minutes of each other.

The court was told how Brown was driving in Llandudno at 11.30pm on January 28 this year when she hit pedestrian Mark Davies on his way home from a night out. The force of her black Volkswagen Polo, travelling at about 40mph, caused Mr Davies to be "thrown six feet up in the air".

Brown did not stop her vehicle until a member of the public forced her to do so after she carried on driving towards a roundabout at the end of Crogfryn Lane. However, shortly after the witness left Brown to tend to Mr Davies, she sped off.

The court heard how CCTV footage has been recovered that shows Brown driving into Llandudno with a "bullseye type smash" on her windscreen from where Mr Davies had been hit. The clips, which were not shown in court, depict her "straddling two lanes" as she continued her dangerous journey into the town centre.

The prosecutor said that the driving came to an abrupt end when Brown crashed close to the Llandudno Magistrates building - where her hearing took place today - hitting "street furniture" before "flipping over". Members of the public tried to help a trapped Brown who managed to free herself from the car and fled the scene again, despite people wanting her to wait for emergency help.

Meanwhile, self-employed kitchen designer and fitter Mr Davies was transferred to trauma specialists in Stoke for a "traumatic brain injury" amongst other injuries caused by Brown. His family, who were present in court today, said that while he is getting better, Mr Davies will suffer "for years to come" because of his multiple injuries and may never fully recover in some aspects.

The judge accepted that the magistrates powers would not go far enough to punish Brown and sent her case up to Caernarfon Crown Court for sentencing on September 8. In the meantime, she has been banned from driving and warned that she could be facing a prison sentence.
