As a small family funeral directors, people often expect to see Kelly or me when they come to Tom Owen and Son. In many ways, that is exactly as it should be.
Families place a great deal of trust in us, and being personally involved in the care we provide is something we take very seriously. But no small family business can run well without good people around it.
A funeral home may look calm from the outside, but behind every funeral there are many quiet acts of care, organisation and professionalism. Some are seen by families. Others happen behind closed doors. All of them matter.

Our office team are often the first friendly voice a family hears. Cara helps keep everything running smoothly, from supporting families and preparing service stationery to making sure countless little details are not overlooked. It is a role that requires organisation, patience and empathy in equal measure.
Behind the scenes, Vicky leads our mortuary care, looking after every person entrusted to us with dignity and respect. Families may never fully see the work that goes into preparing someone for their final farewell, but we know how much comfort it can bring when they visit their loved one and see them looking peaceful and cared
for.
James is another key part of the team and certainly wears many hats. As Head of Memorials, he supports families with lasting tributes after the funeral, while also bringing his skill and care to our in-house floristry. On funeral days, he is one of our senior bearers, often leading ashes burials and supporting services with the calm
professionalism families deserve.
His experience across different areas of the business also means he is playing an increasingly important role in supporting families and funerals from beginning to end.
Then there is our out-of-hours team.
People don’t only die between nine and five. Whether it is Christmas morning, two o’clock in the morning or during a family Sunday lunch, someone is always ready to answer the phone and respond. Team members such as Andy Moore, known to many as Doug, and Aine Guy are part of a wider trusted team who willingly give up evenings, weekends and nights to make sure families are never left waiting when they need help most.
Their work is not always visible, but it is some of the most important work we do. Bringing someone into our care at any hour requires professionalism, promptness and, above all, dignity.

We also rely on the people who help keep the practical side of the business running properly. Aidan helps oversee our fleet, making sure our hearses and limousines are prepared, maintained and ready when families need them. Families quite rightly expect vehicles to arrive immaculate and on time, but that only happens because of careful planning and attention to detail long before the funeral begins.
That is the balance we try to maintain at Tom Owen and Son. We are still very much a small family business, rooted in Llandudno and built on personal relationships. But we are also fortunate to have a team around us who share our standards and care deeply about getting things right.
One of the things we often say is that families remember how they were made to feel. That feeling does not come from one person alone. It comes from every member of the team sharing the same values, whether they are meeting a family in our arrangement room, preparing someone in our care, answering the phone in the
middle of the night, carrying with dignity, or quietly checking the little details in the background.
It is a privilege to work alongside people who care about each other, about our families, and about maintaining the standards Tom Owen and Son is known for.
We may be a small family business, but we are supported by a team with a very big sense of responsibility. Together, we are honoured to care for families across Llandudno, Conwy and beyond, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
