Two Welsh Master field veterans in Robin (Bob) Frost and Paul Brooks from Wrexham AAC are celebrating after collecting a host of awards, medals, and records in their respective recent championship throwing and/or jumping events.

Paul Brooks explained: "Bob Frost, having turned 80 earlier this year is still very busy setting new club records and collecting an impressive number of medals. He won three golds and a silver competing in the Derbyshire County championships, setting age-group records.

"And at the Northern Masters championships in Stretford, he won four golds and two silvers, whilst last weekend at the BMAF championships in Derby, he won both the high jump and long jump, with a bronze in the javelin."

Paul Brooks, who is Bob's club colleague at Wrexham AAC, also continues to go from strength to strength, despite a restrictive injury and a large protective boot, and praised the support of their athletics coach Ian Robinson.

He competed at the recent Telford Games and explained his predicament: “I was reasonably pleased with my performances at the Telford Games on Saturday. The format was three throws and the top three in each age-group getting three more.

“The other MV75 didn’t turn up, so I had six in each event, and still having to wear “the boot” when walking but removing it to do standing throws.

“The shot 6.60, a surprise 22.60 in the discus. I abandoned the javelin after 3 rounds at 11.11, as the heavens opened, and I reasoned that having pulled my calf in that event previously, it was prudent to call it a day. I have a scan soon, so back to the ice pack.”
