A wonderful collection of fifteen stories with a delicious twist, reminiscent of Roald Dahl’s Tales of the Unexpected. If you love those stories where fate conspires to bring an unexpected dénouement, this book is for you.

What happens when a lift engineer and an attractive business owner start revealing secrets during a boozy afternoon in her top floor apartment?
It’s Christmas and author, Roger, is under pressure from Freya, his wife’s best friend, and his lover, to murder his wife so they can be together. The pressure increases as the day goes on until…
A quiet, and unassuming librarian takes unusual steps to gain revenge when somebody helps themselves to his prized sherry whilst on holiday in the Lake District.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Michael Church:
I am seventy-four years of age and have lived all of it in Norfolk. Much of my life has been blighted by mental illness, which has been a real struggle at times but there has been some good come from it as well.
I have been an avid reader ever since I learnt how to read at school. And through those years, I had harboured thoughts of one day writing a book of my own. But, of course, that 'one day' never materialized, until, that is, I had a boating accident which necessitated three months in hospital and rehab.
During that time, I got fed up reading (Is that even possible?) and my thoughts turned to writing. I have always written, on and off, mainly humorous verse and the occasional short story. I've always enjoyed Roald Dahl's 'Tales of the Unexpected' so I decided to try and write one of my own.
I thoroughly enjoyed the process of plotting and planning and working out the twist. I was very pleased with the end result, which turned out to be better than I had hoped. This inspired me to carry on writing more stories, and before I knew it, I had enough for a book.
Short stories are ideal for those who feel daunted by the thought of reading a full-length novel. You can dip in and out of it, reading one complete story in a sitting. This means you don't have to try and remember who is who every time you pick up the book.
When I can, I'm still writing short stories but it is getting harder to come up with a twist. I also write monologues, comedy sketches and a sit-com. I have, as well, a full-length novel on the go.
