UPDATE: NORTH WALES CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE

Unfortunately due to issues beyond our control (bookings at Eirias Park) we have had to re-schedule the second North Wales Cross Country League fixture to Saturday 21st October. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
The revised fixture list is as follows:
Saturday 14th October – Treborth Track, Bangor 
Saturday 21st October – Eirias Park, Colwyn Bay 
Saturday 25th November – Shrewsbury (venue to be confirmed) Saturday 20th January – Dolgellau 
Saturday 10th February – Marches School, Oswestry.
*Starting times: 
Junior races at 10-30am. Women/65+men at 1-00pm; men 2-00pm.


ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The 39th Annual General Meeting of the "David Alun Williams" North Wales Cross Country League, in association with Grand Prix Express took place at Ysgol Clywedog Leisure Centre, Ruthin Road, Wrexham, on Friday 5th May.

Announcements about forthcoming cross-country fixtures have now been confirmed, courtesy, of the well-known and hard working XC League official Bernie Jones (*pictured below). The following dates and venues were agreed at the AGM for the 2023/24 season. 


The North Wales Cross Country Championships will be held at Wrexham on 6th January and the Welsh Inter Regions will be on 18th November at Newtown (subject to confirmation). 

Both Junior and Senior Leagues will consist of all 5 fixtures with the best 4 out of 5 results to count for the overall individual titles.

*Please note that only athletes likely to run in either of the first two fixtures should be registered.

At the AGM it was agreed that any 75+ athlete who didn't feel they could complete the course within the hour allowed would be allowed to start 10 minutes early. The Referees should be notified.

Photos by John Hatton. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com Over three-hundred athletes tackled the challenging Trawsfynydd Multi-Terrain Race last Sunday, which helped to raise essential funds for the South Snowdonia Search and Rescue Team. Described by race officials as a b eautiful multi terrain 8.6-mile race around  Trawsfynydd Lake  in the Eryri/Snowdonia National Park, this event was staged over a relatively fast course, yet it included one rather challenging hill, and a mixed tarmac and trail course.  All proceeds were donated to this worthy Search and Rescue Team, which is a charity, wholly dependent on donations from the public, and is run entirely by volunteers, who are on call-out 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to help those in need in the local area.  The first finisher overall was  Steffan Sayer ...

The Nova parkrun at Prestatyn was one of the best attended local parkruns last Saturday morning with 285 entrants including local club athlete Tom Carter, who was the first finisher with a new PB in 17 minutes and 15 seconds, with the first three finishers all recording new course PBs. Young  Andrew Moore  won his SM20 age cat with an outstanding display in just 17 minutes and 8 seconds, and he was over a minute ahead of his nearest rival  Luke Hilliard  (Elswick Harriers) on his debut in 18.21, with teenager  Aidan Thomas  3rd in 18.30. Report by Don Hale.  https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com   Father and son Dave and Steve Gardner celebrated once again after breaking four Welsh Masters records at the first outdoor event of the season, during the North Wales Endurance Track and Field open meeting, held at the Deeside Stadium, Connah’s Quay, on 4th April. Super veteran Dave competed in the javelin and the shot putt events and he won his M85 age category in both mixed age competitions to add to his many other previous and prestigious Welsh Masters Athletics championship victories and records.  In the Javelin, his winning throw was 15.32m, and in the shot event he recorded another successful throw of 7.19m. The popular ultra-distance veteran runner who had to overcome illness last week battled her way around this challenging course to record an excellent time of 3 hours 59 minutes and 27 seconds.  Sarah was absolutely delighted to dip under the four-hour mark and after her race she confirmed: “I am o ver the moon after my bug last week! Well organised by  John Hatton  and  Carla Green  from  North Wales Road Runners , this popular annual 5-mile race from Deganwy Quay to the RSPB Nature Reserve, and back via Conwy Cob, always attracts over 350-plus mixed ability runners who raise thousands of pounds for charity. Tri Hard Harriers Women Triumph in the West Glamorgan Cross Country League... Report by David Gibson. *Pictured above - the last race.   The final 4.7-mile race of five fixtures was held at Amman Valley Trotting Club, Tairgwaith on Sunday 25th March. The series, which is for South Wales club teams, is held on different courses in west Wales providing a variety of challenges to participants.   The women’s title was won by the Tri Hard Harriers team, who were only promoted to the top division this season, beating Run4All Neath Blacks and 3Ms Gorseinon RR.  Team captain Stephanie Gibson proved to be the class of the field by winning all five events and was ably supported by Teresa Penhorwood who was joint second and Alice Mayo who finished in the women’s top 20.
