Welsh Master David Murrie beat the heat overseas to set a new championship record in the 300m long hurdles event last Sunday (11/6/23) despite the extreme conditions in Singapore during a special two-day international T&F event. 

David, who competed as a Welsh veteran athlete, won his MV65 age cat with a great performance in this long hurdle race (0.762m) in 52.29.



David Murrie was obviously delighted with his outstanding result and confirmed: “On Sunday, I competed in the blazing sun at the extremely hot Singapore International Masters Track & Field Championships - in the men’s over 65 300m Hurdles, after completing some work in Thailand, and I will return to Wales at the end of this week.

“Members may be interested in hearing about this annual two-day competition that hosted teams from Australia, Brunei, China, Dubai, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Poland, Thailand as well as Singapore …and me! I have some general images, and I believe there was a video taken, but it has not been forwarded as yet.”

The rather sandy 5k course at Rhos probably helped athletes to keep their feet and once again this particular parkrun attracted a host of visitors from far afield, and quite remarkably, nine out of the first ten finishers were course debutants! Cheryl Frost  collected a prestigious gold medal after winning her W60 age cat whilst finishing 20th overall in 28 minutes and 38 seconds, and  Kay Hatton  was third in the same age category as Cheryl, and she won a bronze medal in 30.13. BMAF 10km championships - Goodwood Motor Racing Circuit at Chichester 1st February 2026. donhaleblog.blogspot.com/2025 In its eighth year based at the Goodwood Motor Circuit, the 2024 race attracted a huge field of athletes, including some of the best masters athletes in each age group from across the UK.   We have already 63 entries for the BMAF 10k Championships to be promoted on Sunday 1st February 2026 at the Goodwood Motor Circuit, Chichester, Sussex.  Due to parking limitations at the venue, the event does have a strict entry limit.  Those 63 entries wanted to be the very first to enter before we announced there were only 600 race bibs left. Report by Don Hale. donhaleblog.blogspot.com/2025   It was another very cold and very windy morning at most of the New Year’s Day parkruns, yet the conditions still failed to deter hundreds of hardy and determined athletes from travelling a long way just to start their 2026 events in style. Known parkrun events took place at  Conwy, Llangollen, and Newborough Forest , to name but a few, and all reported good attendances, and were well supported by generous teams of enthusiastic volunteers. At Conwy,  the organisers welcomed 242 entrants including numerous first timers, and the first finisher was Wrexham AAC star  James Yarwood  in 17 minutes and 45 seconds.  Iain Burgess  ran a good second place in 18.10, and visitor  Thomas Watkiss  took the third spot in 18.44.
