It was another bumper turn-out and another very hot and heavy evening for nearly 200 athletes at the Llanrug 5k race last Wednesday night.

Following a fast and relatively flat course around the village, the event attracted a large contingent of top club and social runners, with many additionally recording personal best (PB) times despite the challenging conditions.

The race proved to be a very fast dash to the finish with local athlete Adam Jones (Eryri Harriers) eventually taking the plaudits as the first man home in just 15 minutes and 35 seconds, with just eight-seconds separating the first three runners. Dion Griffith (Menai T&F) finished just six seconds adrift of the winner, with Owen Roberts 3rd, and he was only two seconds behind Dion.

Gemma Moore (Eryri Harriers) ensured the club celebrated a unique club race double, when she claimed the 1st female prize, in 29th place overall, and similar to the men’s race, Gemma won by just three-seconds ahead of Rachel Shipley (Abergele Harriers), who finished as the 2nd female, in 30th place overall, in 19.03; with Anna Drinkwater (Eryri Harriers) 3rd female in 19.14, and in 34th place overall.
