Bryn Woodall stars at Conwy parkrun after return from the States.

Conwy parkrun again attracted a good number of talented young athletes and visitors from across the UK, in addition to the usual mix of club and social runners, who all enjoyed a fast dash over this picturesque route despite very hot conditions.

The first male runner back over this bumpy and bone-dry, out-and-back course, was promising young teenage athlete Bryn Woodall, (*pictured above right), who has recently returned home from America for a break, where he is currently studying. 

The talented SM18 age cat winner who represents Colwyn Bay AC, celebrated another worthy victory in just 16 minutes dead, and he was more than a minute ahead of his nearest rival, visitor Liam Busby (Wycombe Phoenix AC) who finished 2nd in 17.06. At the time of writing the third placed finisher was still unknown.

Gemma Moore (Eryri Harriers) was the first female finisher with a new PB of 19.23, and she also won her VW35 age cat in 7th place overall. Hayley Turner (GOG Triathlon) was the 2nd female athlete in 42nd place overall in 23.46, and she was 2nd in the same age cat as Gemma, whilst Sian Beck (Prestatyn RC), ran well in 45th place overall, and she was the 3rd female runner in 23.51, and Sian also won her VW45 age cat.

North Wales Road Runners only entered ten members due to other commitments but still recorded four age cat wins and one second place, with Jonathan Kettle (*pictured left), leading the team back after finishing 4th overall, and 1st in his MV45 age cat in 17.48.

Karl Morris enjoyed a good run in 25th place in 22.14, and young Joe Culverhouse ran his socks off in 29th place, and he was also 1st in his JM11-14 cat in 22.25, with his father Stuart, who ran with him, finishing just one place and one second behind. 

Richard Scamans finished 38th overall in 23.33, and Cheryl Frost completed another excellent performance in 53rd place and 1st VW55 age cat in 23.33. Master veteran Mark Mason also collected another MV70 cat win in 27.20, with veteran John O’Shea 114th in 28.57.

Meanwhile, another master vet, Don Hale, struggled with the heat following a difficult week, to finish 127th, and 2nd MV70 cat in 30.15, and Rachel Morris was 178th in 34.33. 

*NWRRC chairman Kevin Slattery’s son Ian Slattery also took part in the Conwy parkrun, and he finished 9th in 19.53, with Ian’s wife and singer Monique running home in 228th place in 45.49, and his son Ruben, claiming 236th place in 50.08.
