Fourteen Road Runners competed in the hot and humid Essar Chester half-marathon race on Sunday to commemorate its 40th anniversary, with Martin Green the first NWRRC runner home following an excellent run in this popular event, which recorded nearly 4,000 finishers.

Martin finished 26th overall, and he was 4th in his MV45 age cat in 1 hour 15 minutes and 2 seconds. Jonathan Kettle also ran very well in 58th place in 1.19.08, with Iwan Evans 157th in 1.27.21, and Steve Bozier finished in 211th place in 1.28.58.

Carla Green seems to have recovered from her recent injury and she was the 22nd female finisher, whilst claiming 3rd spot in her FV50 cat, 218th overall in 1.29.08, and Stuart Culverhouse finished in 374th place in 1.36.07.

Cheryl Frost however, had a more problematic run after tripping close to the finish but still managed to record a good result finishing as the 113th female runner, and 634th overall in 1.43.43, with Kay Hatton 675th overall and the 121st female in 1.44.50.

Kelly-Marie Alford and Cai Roberts (*pictured above) ran together and finished in 1.57.26 in 1,368/9th places, with Kevin Higgins in-form once more to record 2.01.39 in 1,635th place, whilst Jon Evans successfully ran the two-hour bus on time again in 1.59.37. Rachel Morris was also pleased with her outing in 2.33.00, and Mandy Owen braved the hot conditions to celebrate finishing in 2.20.39.

*The race was won by Omar Ahmed (Birchfield Harriers) in 1.03.52, with 2nd Tom Merson (Exmouth Harriers) 1.07.45, and 3rd Peter Avent 1.08.22.

At  Llandrillo yn Rhos,  where they commemorated WWF and a nature theme, they again celebrated with a generous number of 443 participants, including plenty of visitors from across the UK. The first finisher was debutant  Aidan Thomas,  who was the runaway leader, finishing in just 17 minutes and 22 seconds. Competing in the Male Masters 65-69 age category I finished just in front of the in-form David Warren, Cardigan AC. West Wales first and second…and both finishing ahead of the winner of the women 35+yo race.  The field set off at a sharp pace to take advantage of the downhill sweep before hitting the first long hill on the first of the 4 laps of 1500m. The Team GB athlete, and  NWRRC  member, who was representing his second claim club  GOG Triathlon , improved on his previous impressive result - and a silver medal - at the recent Welsh Sprint Duathlon Championships just a fortnight ago, to win his MV60-64 cat following a strong overall performance. Steve later said:  “I competed for  GOG Triathlon Club  in the East Fortune Sprint Duathlon, located on a racetrack to the East of Edinburgh. Report by Don Hale. donhaleblog.blogspot.com/2026 coastandcountry.blog   North Wales couple Karl and Rachel Morris competed in the Oulton Park Metric Marathon last Sunday and they both recorded some excellent finishing times around this iconic motor racing circuit. Karl, who represented NWRC, came 17th overall out of 58 finishers in a very good time of 2 hours 20 minutes and 18 seconds around six laps of the racetrack, and he was fourth in his M45 age category.  And Rachel also hit top gear and celebrated in style following an amazing new PB, which smashed her previous metric marathon results, mainly due to her intense marathon training. Conwy photos by Michael Finnie. donhaleblog.blogspot.com coastandcountry.blog   It was another bright and beautiful Saturday morning at the Llandrillo yn Rhos 5k parkrun, which again attracted numerous first timers and visitors, with many recording some excellent finishing times along this picturesque promenade route. Armon Williams  was the first finisher overall with an outstanding performance and a new course PB in just 17 minutes and 15 seconds, with  Jeremy Pena  second in 1814, and JM15-17 athlete  Eban Jones  third with a new course PB in 18.28.
