Conwy runners tried the new ‘Parkrun in the Past’ event.

A couple of Conwy on Tour members journeyed across to Hope, near Wrexham, last Saturday morning to join in with the fun – along with over 400 other athletes – in the first parkrun at this unique location

Now known as the Parkrun in the Past, this event combines a modern community run with a dash through the past, with the 5k course combining an interesting new route via an ancient Roman Fort project.

Peter Johnson and Megan New (GOG Triathlon), from the Conwy travellers group were debutants to witness the excitement of this extraordinary venture, and after the event Peter explained: “I spotted a new one appear on the map, so I headed over to give it a go (my 21st location). Many other runners had travelled too, meaning it was incredibly busy, so the start was delayed by 5 minutes.

“Park in the Past is an ongoing project to build a life-size Roman fort, and on the run, you go through the Fort which is already looking very impressive and unique.”

* The first male finisher overall was David Brickley (Buckley), in 17.14, and the first female finisher was Fio Hughes(Running bear RC) in 20.20. The event attracted 423 finishers, and Peter Johnson was 210th in 28.58, whilst Meganwas 240th in 30.06.

NWRRC member Mark Jessett also celebrated a very good result in 4th place in 18.34, and he won his VM35 age cat, and Harry Driscoll, now with Meirionnydd RC, took the 9th spot in 19.47, and he was 3rd SM20-24.

Another glorious Saturday morning was had under the blazing sun, and another glorious Saturday morning of parkrunning and healthy activity.

A large contingent of Conwy parkrunners headed to Penrhyn to enjoy the 2 big loops and 2 small loops, whilst an equally large group headed over to Nova Prestatyn for a lovely coastal run.
Looks like quite a few of you curious folk decided to give the new parkrun in the region a go, Park in the Past in Hope near Wrexham. Looks like it could be a popular one. You guys do get around.
Parkruns visited by Conwy parkrunners this weekend include: Penrhyn, Nova Prestatyn, Ruthin Memorial Playing Fields, Woodbank, Sandall Park, Greenfield Valley, Chester. Potternewston and Park in the Past. Meanwhile, a large group of Porth Eirias had a lovely run n the sun at Llanddulas.
Nice to see a number of our regulars volunteering at Penrhyn again including Dougie, John, Mick and young Oliver with mum Nicola doing a great job of barcode scanning. Great ambassadors for Conwy parkrun but also lovely to see the familiar faces for those of us visiting.
Thank you once again for sharing your photos. It really is inspiring to see you all keeping at it. Diolch pawb, tan wythnos nesa.
