North Wales athletes starred for Wales against England Masters

A large number of North Wales based athletes formed part of the Welsh Masters team that competed at the Shrewsbury 5k Running Festival last Saturday against England Masters.


Meirionnydd RC had two members in the top ten finishers including Rhodri Owen, who was 3rd overall out of 331 elite runners in 14.57, with Tomos Roberts 7th in 15.11, and former NWRRC member Martin Green, a top veteran, now with his new first claim club, also enjoyed a great run in 53rd place in 16.53.

North Wales Road Runners had five members involved with the famous red vest, and they all recorded good times with Will Williams 104th in 18.12, Steve Gardner 140th in 18.56, Carla Green 220th in 21.16, Cheryl Frost 246th in 23.44, and Karen Butler 250th in 24.41.


After the race, Martin Green said: “Another great day doing what I love best, with the ones I love best for the country I love best. Welsh masters fixture v England at Shrewsbury. Neither Carla or I were at our best, but we showed up and put in a decent shift. That must be at least the tenth time representing Wales something I always dreamed off as a child and it is always the utmost honour.”

Urgent search for a Team Manager for the Welsh Masters Athletics Men’s squad...plus a new initiative for promoting  individual T&F results. Report by Rod Davies from WMAL.  donhaleblog.blogspot.com/2025   The Indoor Championships last weekend seem to have been enjoyed by those present, especially the winners (*see revised and updated attached list below).   Next up are the BMAF Championships at Lee Valley on 21-22 February.   Entries via BMAF Opentrack close on 8 February.   That leaves the Inter-Area match, also at Lee Valley, on 14 March. Here we have a problem.  While the women's team will be managed by the usual excellent management team, we are in the awkward position of NOT actually having a men's team manager for this event. Most photographs by Michael Finnie. donhaleblog.blogspot.com/2025 The Llandrillo yn Rhos parkrun team welcomed some surprise members from  Colwyn Bay Rowing Club  to their event last Saturday morning – AKA the ‘parkrun rowers’ - who waited just offshore and set a challenge to try to keep pace with some of the tail walkers along the adjacent but very sandy promenade course as they headed towards the Porth Eirias turn point. *Pictured above and top - the Llandrillo yn Rhos parkrun rowers, and  (*below), the 5K Your Way, Move Against  Cancer Group on the promenade at Rhos on Sea last Saturday morning. North Wales duo on top form at South Liverpool 10k

Steve records his best ever 10k time at South Liverpool Report by Don Hale.    donhaleblog.blogspot.com/2025 Two North Wales Road Runners travelled to compete in the South Liverpool 10k last Sunday, and both members recorded very good results. The event was held at the Wavertree Park and Stadium and the course included laps of the athletic track and the park, but Steve Bozier  claimed his best ever 10k time of 39.31 to finish in 27th place overall, and his club colleague  Kevin Higgins  was also on song, and he too was pleased with his finishing time of 57.49. However, at the time of writing the age cat results had not been confirmed. The BMAF 10km championships at Chichester this weekend - and BMAF 30km Multi-Terrain champs at Gravesend.

BMAF 30km Multi-Terrain champs - Gravesend, 28 June 2026 and the BMAF 10K championships this weekend.. donhaleblog.blogspot.com/2025 The North Downs 30k on the 28th June is possibly the best Trail Race in the South East.  It is also once more the BMAF long course Trail Championships. Each year numbers grow within the Championship with many returning joined by new faces. Entry instructions are explained on the   BMAF Opentrack entry page   However, if you are quick you can save money on your entry fee. T he cost of entry to the North Downs 30K Trail Race for UKA registered athletes is £38, but there is an early bird offer of entry for £36 valid   until 31st January , so you only until Saturday to enter.
