Colwyn Bay AC member and student Bryn Woodall set a superb personal best time to win a national 1500m track championship title at the NAIA track finals in America last weekend.

The promising North Wales athlete, and a former regular at the Conwy parkrun, who still holds the course record holder over their 5k route, is currently overseas on a student scholarship scheme, has been busy studying at Milligan University in the USA.  

And last week he recorded a great new PB of just 3.41.93 over this distance to claim a prestigious title victory against quality opposition at the end of a busy season of athletics.

Report by Don Hale. donhaleblog.blogspot.com/2025 The annual Nick Beer 10k race proved a hit once more with a massive 967 athletes completing a tough course from outside Venue Cymru and around the Great Orme before returning to Llandudno’s spectacular promenade, where spectators gave each entrant a warm welcome on a rather cool and breezy day. Photos by Michael Finnie and Bill Scriven. donhaleblog.blogspot.com/2025   Heavy overnight frost morning forced the cancellation of five parkruns throughout North Wales last Saturday morning, but the surviving  Valentine’s Day events proved a love of running, and especially at Llandrillo yn Rhos, where yet another bumper attendance created a tremendous atmosphere. Despite a rather sandy and challenging 5k promenade course, this event is proving to be a magnet each week for visiting runners – and particularly for elite club athletes - with debutants again accounting for seven out of the first ten finishers. North Wales Road Runners dominated the Abergele 5k and North Wales championships last weekend by recording a host of PBs, age category wins, and other podium placings, in addition to claiming both the male and female team prizes. It was soon raining gold on the windswept promenade at Pensarn on Sunday as NWRRC members smashed numerous records and collected seven age category gold medals and trophies, in addition to two runners-up awards and silver medals, plus a further two bronze medals, and two prestigious team prizes.  In a very fast and highly competitive race,  Scott Nixon  (Cardiff AC) was the first runner home in 15 minutes 47 seconds, with  Jon Bowie  (Shrewsbury AC) 2nd in 15.52, and  Steve Forsyth  (Prestatyn) in 15.57.  Martin Green  (*pictured above) from NWRRC led a strong team of twenty club members back al...

Report by David Gibson. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com www.welshmastersathletics.co.uk   On Thursday 22nd August saw Swansea club Tri Hard Harriers put on its second annual THH ‘5k on the Bay’ race along the Swansea Bay front between Blackpill and Oystermouth.  The course was very flat and fast, and this year produced numerous personal best times in the sell-out field of 300. Amongst many stella performances there were a few worth noting.   *Mike Roderick  of Tri Hard Harriers came in first with a time of 15:42.  *First female was  Megan Carter-Davies  of Swansea Harriers with a great time of 16:52.   *In the Veteran Female category  Stephanie Gibson  of Tri Hard Harriers was first (and second female overall) with a superb time of 18:00.
