Welsh Masters Athletics members celebrated their success in style last weekend after collecting a massive haul of thirty-three prestigious medals at the British Masters T&F championships held at the Moorways Sports Complex in Derby.

Numerous WMAL club members displayed their talents in somewhat breezy conditions and won sixteen gold medals, five silver, and twelve bronze medals in a wide variety of events in their respective age categories; and Melanie Garlandclaimed a superb hat-trick of gold medals and one bronze medal after successfully competing in the 100m, long jump, and triple jump competitions. 



Juliet Sidney
 (*pictured above centre on the podium) won two gold medals for her efforts in the 100m and 200m events, and similarly two gold medals were also won by Amanda Cook in the long jump and triple jump, with Dorothy Fraser winning two more gold medals in her 100m and 200m races, as did veteran Daphne Marler, who collected two gold medals in the long jump, and triple jump, and a bronze in her HT2K event.

Single gold medals were additionally and deservedly won by Caroline Marler in the SP3K, along with Jan Timberlake in her high jump event, Louise Kirby in the 3000HW, plus a bronze in her 100m race, whilst Amanda Broadhurst struck gold in the triple jump in addition to two further medals including a silver in her JT500 event, and a bronze in the long jump.

Praise to Nicola Buckwell who won three bronze medals in the 200m, 80HW60, and JT60 events and to Angela Bryant for two bronze medals in the 100m and 200m in her age cat; and many congratulations also to Sharon Hutchings who additionally won two well deserved bronze medals.
