Wow! What an amazing time I had in Tenby! By Steven Owen.

 

I have never experienced anything like it ever before! This was by far the biggest and toughest race I have ever done before and despite last minute nerves on the morning, I loved every minute, even when I was feeling depleted on the bike and run! 

 

Now I have done it, I am left wondering what event will be next and what could possibly compare to the amazing atmosphere and challenge of Ironman Wales.

Never before have I experienced an epic swim start like IMW, experienced so many supporters in towns, villages and rural areas around Pembrokeshire, climbed hills like Wiseman’s Bridge or Heartbreak Hill in Saundersfoot with thousands of supporters in the road cheering you on, and most of all never looked at race photos and seen a smile on almost every single photo (well most anyway)!

A big thank you to Rhian from Triroxtraining for the support on the Ironman Plan and Elsa for the SwimFit sessions focussed towards our plans and not forgetting our other GOG Triathlon Club athletes and supporters who made it so much more fun becoming an Ironman! 

 

Most of all, I have to thank Valeria and Caitlin for being supportive of all the work I have put into this since January. I am not sure I would have managed this without their help!

A very challenging and muddy course at the Bala cross country fixture in the latest NW XC League event... In the Senior Men's race Andrew Moore (Bangor University) was the first man home in 31 minutes and 12 seconds, but he was only 13-seconds ahead of his keen rival Rhodri Owen (Meirionnydd RC) in 31.23, and Rhodri's clubmate Daniel Kashi in 31.44. The Meirionnydd team packed well and they had five members in the top 10 finishing places and topped the team table ahead of Wrexham AAC and Buckley, who were both within a whisker of each other. *There were 144 finishers. Mark Davies bravely completed the Conwy half-marathon. Special report by Don Hale. donhaleblog.blogspot.com/2025 Former fell and mountain champion racer Mark Davies put in a tremendous display of true grit and determination last Sunday as he tackled the gruelling Conwy half marathon, barely two years after receiving life-threatening injuries as a hit and run victim. Mark is an award winning multi-athlete who has spent all his time since the accident trying to re-build his life and his body after such horrific injuries and has gradually been able to take part in some local parkruns. Although a long way from his previous fitness regime, he decided to try and gradually increase his training mileage over recent months with the aim of running the Conwy half to help fundraise for Headway, the brain injury charity association, that has helped him to partially recover from his ordeal.
