Success for GOG athletes at perfect Conwy parkrun.

Conwy parkrun welcomed two-hundred and twenty-six mixed ability entrants to their usual Saturday morning parkrun, which this week was staged in near perfect conditions.

The fair weather seemed to attract a host of both club and social runners from far afield, and yet it was a highly promising young local athlete who eventually took the plaudits with a scintillating display to finish nearly thirty-seconds ahead of his nearest senior rival.

Alfie Shiland from Colwyn Bay AC enjoyed a superb run to finish 1st overall in just 18 minutes and 45 seconds to additionally win his JM11-14 age category. David Murray was 2nd in 19.12 with Will Williams from North Wales Road Runners 3rd in 19.28.

The Ladies event was won by NWRRC athlete Carla Green in 8th place in 20.08, with Alice Johnston (Les Croupiers), 2nd female and 18th overall in 21.31, and she was just ahead of Ella Grundy (Colwyn Bay) 3rd female and 21st overall in 21.38.

The GOG Triathlon Club entered eleven members and claimed four podium places including one age category win, two second places, and one third. Billy Thomas was the first club man home in 16th place overall and 2nd in his SM25 cat with a great course PB of 21.14, with Paul Algieri 29th and 3rd in his MV55 cat in 22.26, whilst Andy Brazier (*pictured below) was 33rd in 22.48.

Michelle Farrell recorded 48th place and she won her VW40 age cat in 23.47, with Nicola Tomlinson 79th and 2nd in the same cat as Nicola in 26.05. Rob Stewart had a good run in 98th spot in 27.35, and Sarah Ellwood finished well in 138th place in 31.06, with Andrea Cody 161st in 32,46. Liz McIndoe was close to Andrea in 168th place in 32.59, and Katie Harvey finished 190th in 35.36, with veteran Wayne Roberts hot on Katie’s heels, and just one place, and one second behind.

North Wales Road Runner Karl Morris took part in the annual Conwy Fell Race on Saturday afternoon just a few hours after competing in the 5k Nova parkrun at Prestatyn.  Described by the organisers as ‘a great fell race in the Conwy mountains,’ this gruelling course followed a 5-mile route, which included an initial 500m climb, and a further 1650ft of elevation, which started and finished at Conwy Cricket Club, and attracted 112 hardy and mixed ability athletes. Report by Don Hale. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com   Martin Green led the North Wales Running team home at the Village Bakery half marathon race at Wrexham last Sunday with a very impressive display just days after returning from a family holiday. Martin , who now has dual registration with  Meirionnydd RC , recorded a fast time of 1.14.06, in 72nd place overall, out of 1,834 entrants, and he won his M50 age cat.  Will Evans  was another athlete in top form, and he was thrilled with his new PB time of 1.25.34 in 33rd place, whilst Martin’s wife  Carla Green  finished 3rd in her F50 cat in 506th place, and the 47th female, in 1.31.19. *Richard Scamans (*above), was the first NWRRC member back at Conwy. Almost tropical at Conwy parkrun after weeks of freezing conditions...plus other results... Report by Don Hale,   There was a good mix of travelling club and social runners at Conwy parkrun last Saturday for a half-term encounter, with temperatures appearing almost tropical at just 4 degrees, following a long period of freezing conditions and strong winds. Iain Burgess  celebrated another outstanding performance as the first finisher overall on this usual puddle-filled 5k course in just 18 minutes and 35 seconds, with debutant  Ewan Gibb  ( Saltaire Striders ), pressing Iain all the way home in 19.19, whilst  Jack Callaghan  ( Betsi Runaways ), was 3rd in 19.43. Report by Don Hale. https://donhaleblog.blogspot.com   Nearly three-hundred mixed ability athletes took part in the Conwy parkrun last Saturday following a series of postponements due to the weather and severe water problems but faced a very cold breeze and a waterlogged 5k course on their delayed 10th anniversary. Martin Green  was the first  North Wales Road Runner  home, although he also represents  Meirionnydd Runners , due to his dual registration. He finished 7th overall in 17 minutes and 59 seconds and won his VM50 age cat.
