GOG runners on form at Conwy parkrun but numbers depleted.

Report by Don Hale.

Nine GOG athletes entered the Conwy parkrun last Saturday (11/2/23) with many others no doubt saving their energy for the Nick Beer 10k or the Village Bakery half-marathon on the following day.

Despite the fixture clashes, all the runners performed well with Andy Brazier taking the plaudits as the first club man back on this challenging 5k course.

Andy recorded a good time of 24.46 in 40th place overall. He was followed by Nicola Tomlinson in 60th place in 26.10, and she was 2nd in her VW40 age cat.

Three GOG runners, including Steven Owen, Bryn Phillips, and Graeme Tunstall, all finished within a whisker of each other in a mad-dash sprint to the line, and amazingly shared the exact same time of 26.35 in 70th/71st and 72nd places.

Rob Stewart was 82nd in 27.17, with veteran Wayne Roberts 115th in 29.20, closely followed by Tom Simpson in 117th place in 29.25, and Sarah Elwood 164th and 3rd in her VW45 cat in 34.43.

*Road Running newcomer Alastair Canaway was the first man home at the Conwy parkrun on (11/2/23), as the club celebrated four age category wins and six podium placings in another fast and furious encounter.

The NWRRC athlete continued his recent impressive form and his recent success in London to secure a narrow victory and he additionally won his MV35 age cat with a new course PB of 18 minutes and 1 second.

This event again attracted plenty of club and social runners from across the UK, and yet, despite a fierce encounter for honours, Alastair just managed to stay ahead of the chasing pack, with Aled Hughes 2nd in 18.24, and Alison Campbell (Sheffield University) 3rd, and the 1st Lady with a great PB of 18.32.

With Alison claiming the top female place, Hayley Cooke (Cheltenham & County) took the 2nd spot in 19.19, with Hayley-Louise MacGugan (Widnes RC) 3rd in 23.06.

*Praise was given to the race director, and to all the volunteers and marshals, who made this event such a success. This is the link to the provisional results:
