The Final Moments Matter campaign – previously highlighted on my blog – and launched over a two-day period towards the end of last month by Hope House and Ty Gobaith Children’s Hospices has finally reached their incredible fundraising target of £500k.

Staged over a very special and intense 36-hour period on Sunday 26th November and Monday 27th November, they set out to raise half-a-million pounds to help cover the annual costs of providing the very best end of life care for every child and family in this region.

Organisers asked the community to come together as one, to embrace local families, whose hearts were breaking and to make sure they were not isolated in their pain and grief.

Thanks to the generosity of some key benefactors however, they thankfully began their fundraising efforts with a ‘matched giving pot’ of £250,000, which meant that every donation received during the Final Moments Matters campaign would be doubled.

This week the final total reached at a staggering total of £563,441, and was said to include 1,758 donors, and 165 fundraising teams. Alison Marsh, the head of fundraising, confirmed that she was “blown away” by the tremendous response to their appeal, and the amazing generosity of supporters, and especially at such a difficult time including various cost-of-living problems.

She said: “The love and support we had over 36 hours has been humbling, and I cannot even begin to describe how grateful we are to our generous match funders, our determined team leaders who ran mini online appeals, and our incredible families, supporters, staff, and volunteers."

Alison added: “Many of the fundraising teams who took part in the appeal were dedicated to the memories of children who had been looked after by Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith.

“Team Megs paid tribute to Megs Whieldon, who died earlier this year aged just 10-years-old. Her friends and family donated, and they also arranged a crowd collection at Wrexham AFC, and together, they raised more than £7,000.

*This is a statement from Hope House and Ty Gobaith Children’s

Hospices, giving some background to many of their most valuable and essential services provided:

At Hope House Children’s Hospices, we know that Final Moments Matter and that the last moments of a child’s life should be as precious as their first.

That is why our mission is to make sure that no one faces the death of a child alone, so that every family facing the death of a child gets the very best care and support when and where they need it.

Our support of babies, children and young people begins at the very start of life with our Neonatal team who help families whose baby has been diagnosed with a complex or life-threatening condition during pregnancy, who has been born with a life-threatening condition or who has sadly died.

Our care for a child or young person at the end of their life includes symptom management and additional support for family members and carers before, during and after death.

We also offer care to any child or young person who has died in any circumstances, whether or not, they have previously used our hospice services.

Our experienced team will do everything possible to meet the whole family's needs and wishes during this very difficult time. Our immediate care after death can take place at the hospices in our Snowflake Suites or within a family’s home. We have the equipment and the skills so that families can spend time saying goodbye in their own way and in their own time.

Counselling and bereavement support is also available to anyone who has been affected by the death of a baby, child, or young person. Our care extends to brothers and sisters whose sibling has died who are supported by specially trained staff either individually or in small, therapeutic groups.
