GOGs ran well at Conwy parkrun and at the RunWales Loyalty 10k despite the weather...

Report by Don Hale.

Eight GOG Triathlon members ran in the Conwy parkrun last Saturday morning and claimed seven podium places including three age category wins.

Josh Keogh (NWRRC), claimed his 10th win at Conwy and his 5th consecutive victory, finishing in 17 minutes and 32 seconds, which was some 27-seconds ahead of teenage rival James Smith (Menai Track & Field), who was 2nd in 17.59, and Osian Griffiths, 3rd in 18.35.

For the Ladies Anna Drinkwater (Eryri Harriers) was the 1st female runner home in 7th place overall in 20.47, and Ella Grundy (Colwyn Bay) finished 2nd, and in 19th place overall in 22.49, with Cheryl Frost (NWRRC) 3rd in 23.09.

Despite a freezing cold day and a waterlogged and puddle-filled course, all the GOG runners still recorded some excellent times especially considering the challenging conditions with Andy Jones the first club member home in 13th place and 4th in his MV45 cat in 21.32.

*GOG athlete Paul Algieri (*above) ran well last Saturday.

Paul Algieri finished 20th in 23.01 and he was 2nd in his MV55 cat, with Lizzie Irvine 25th and 1st in her VW35 age cat in 23.17. Andy Brazier was 26th in 23.33 and he was 3rd in his MV55 cat.

Liz Evans finished in 52nd place and won her VW70 cat in 26.25, and Nicola Tomlinson also won her VW40 age cat in 26.30 finishing hot on Nicola's heels in 53rd place overall.

Meanwhile, Katie Harvey claimed the 2nd spot in her VW50 cat finishing 68th overall in 27.46, and she was just ten-seconds ahead of her club colleague Paula Stevens, who was 3rd in the same age cat in 27.56.

*Plaudits were later given to race director Bethan Wyn Roberts and her dedicated team of volunteers on such a horribly wet morning. After the event, Bethan said: “Well done to the one hundred and eleven brave runners who ran along the estuary today. A huge thank you to all the volunteers today. It would not be possible without our high viz heroes. Shame about the weather but at least everyone went home with clean feet after running through our puddles.”

*RunWales Loyalty 10k race:

Three GOG members ran in the RunWales Loyalty 10k race over much of the same soggy-wet course as the Conwy parkrun and run just two-hours later.

Daniel Wellings enjoyed a good result despite the horrific conditions to finish in 4th place overall, and 2nd in his MV45 age cat in 37.45. Paul Martin was 38th in 48.36, with Scott Gardner 63rd in 54.47.

The 10k race, which was won by Rob Grantham (Wirral AC) in 35.52, welcomed seventy-nine athletes over the same shared and saturated course as the 5k entrants in similar horrific conditions.
