It was an early start as the ferry left Holyhead at 4a.m! The smiling faces from the parkrun tourists started to arrive and we were all in high spirits as we boarded the ferry and found somewhere to get our heads down for a few hours’ sleep, before we arrived in Dublin at 7am.

Different groups were heading to different parkruns with Fairview, Father Collins and Malahide being the main three that people were heading towards.

I was with another eleven, who headed up to Father Collins parkrun, which was just a short train journey on the DART after getting the bus from the port, all costing less than 10 euros per person.

We arrived a good 40 mins before the 9.30am start, this gave us plenty of time to get changed, use the public toilets on site and warm up. The set-up team arrived after us and before we knew it, we had some photos with the parkrun sign, listened to the briefing and we were off.

A great parkrun, two laps of a lovely park, with the locals very enthusiastic about the North Wales visitors. A fast course and some great personal results on the day from our group.

Then it was back into Dublin for a few drinks and breakfast before we were back on the ferry for the 4.30pm return to Holyhead. A great, fun day with a great bunch of people.  It won’t be long before we go again!

Just to mention, this is £12 return on the ferry which makes it a great chance to get over to Dublin and complete one of the 21 parkruns. All of which, are within reach of the port, with a bit of planning before you set off.
