Update on Masters Road Race Championship Calendar 2026...make a note of some important BMAF diary dates.
Although the BMAF Executive has only two elected officers and an England Masters representative in post we are not a quorum, this concern has led to some delays and the ability to make decisions.
However, with the help of BMAF Services we are determined to continue to provide Championships at T&F, XC and on the Road. To that effect I am posting an update on future Road and Trail Championships to all athletes who have shown an interest in past events
On the 28th June we return to the North Downs for our 30k British Masters Trail Championships. I am delighted to report that many who compete return and this year will be no different. The reasons are simple. It is possibly the best Trail race in the South.
The Marathon is next and will be promoted in Ramsey on the Isle of Man by the IOMVAC, which is one the 11 Masters Clubs affiliated to the BMAF. The date is the 9th August and many who compete make a weekend of even a week to explore what the Isle of Man has to offer.
If you enter you will experience a bespoke event on quiet roads where all your needs are met. A significant number of athletes travel from across the globe to experience the hospitality of the race and the Isle of Man. In short this is one Marathon you have to do in your lifetime
We then travel to Dumfries on the 20th September and promote our Half Marathon which is organised by Dumfries Running Club. A true club event organised for club runners. Half Marathons and Marathons can cost a fortune to enter but this half is excellent value for money. It is also an excellent competitive experience and we have returned for one simple reason, it is another bespoke event where all your needs are met.
Athletes then have the chance to experience one of the fastest 5k's in the UK at our 5k Championships on the 29th November in Battersea Park London organised by VAC. The date is perfect for a weekend in London with some pre-Christmas shopping or even better explore what the iconic Battersea Power Station has to offer.
You won’t be disappointed from one of the largest open air ice rinks in the UK, the Ramses and the Pharaohs' Gold exhibition, or book a journey in lift 109 and travel to one of the best viewing platforms in London. This 5k will reach it limit so be quick to enter once entries open.
All the information you need for all 4 Road/Trail Championships is on Opentrack.
We have now arranged our masters Cross Country Relay championships on 24th October. It will be based for the first time at Horspath Stadium, near Oxford and the course in neighbouring Shotover Park is a testing 3000m, with hills, plenty of mud and a ditch. *Full details and club entry form will be published soon on Opentrack.
Finally, an appeal: I am reaching out for help, is there any club, team or organisation that could lead on the Masters Road Relays. For 3 years we have promoted them at Mallory Park with the help of Active Training World; unfortunately this will not be the case this year. Please get back to me at whill@bmaf.org.uk. Thank you.
